Every player votes their own order of power rankings, just for this year, excluding their team. Congregate average turns into a weighted bingo ball roll for placement.

Like other posts, definitely not perfect but I think it’s a halfway good option.
Horrible option if people have other teams first round picks.
Then, rule that you can't rank a team if you own their first.

I proposed something similar and it feels like a solid solution, as long as there isn't collusion. Some teams might cut deals to rank each other at a certain place.

But It's the best way to be fair to the teams who are unquestionably awful and those who are stacked on paper.

Some teams might also see that a top team has the rookie pick of a bottom 3 type team, and rank that bottom team way higher. I think there are problems to this idea. There is no perfect solution, but I think tiered lottery based on last years season is the best way. Sure, the odd team will have made a bunch of moves that on paper would have changed the possible outcome of their team drastically, it's not perfect, but I don't like the idea of people getting to have active decision making on the order, it leads to too many potential issues of dishonesty.

We haven't talked about it yet in my league but our draft doesn't take place (normally) until after the 3rd preseason game. If there is no season this year, I would think we won't have a draft this year and both 2020 and 2021 rookies would be combined in the draft, and that would just push down a lot of the talent.

I don’t love this. Seems like it would be messy concerning traded picks. However, if this is a possibility, I’d be trying to trade for picks 1.08-1.12 as their value would spike.

Also, the method of 2021 order needs to be established soon. I don’t like the idea of a commissioner toying with various ideas and having time to act accordingly before introducing the option to the league. An example would be thinking you might just combine the two drafts so let me pick up another early 2nd before that’s put forth to my league mates. it also needs determined/weighted by something that already exists (last season’s record for example) and not something that can be manipulated from this point forward.

How about KISS -- keep it simple, stupid?

I'm simply keeping the 2020 draft order the same as the 2021 draft order.

I think this is my second favorite option after a lottery weighted toward he 2020 order...just because a lottery sounds fun.

I think if leagues can't agree to how the picks should be distributed this is the best way of doing it.

I would think this is the more sensible/feasible option. Maybe you tweak how the bottom teams could shake out so that the 2020 1.01 isn't guaranteed the 2021 1.01 again but besides that, your middle to upper-tier teams remain the same.

I think in a 12 teamer 3 tiers would be good. 1-4, 5-8, 8-12. Nobody moves up or down too far, but it can shake it up a bit.

I can’t remember what thread it was in or who mentioned it but my favorite suggestion so far is to start with non playoff teams, let’s say 6 team make the playoffs.

Team 1 (2020 1.01) gets 6 balls, team 2 (2020 1.02) gets 5 balls...team 6 gets 1 ball. Make the first selection which will be 2021 1.01 then replace that team with team 7 (2020 1.07) who will start with 1 ball. The other 5 remaining teams (unless the 6 ball team remains) would be re seeded and given an additional ball.

This way the 2019 Champ would get pick 1.07 best case scenario. The downside is that there is a chance that a 2019 bottom feeder slides down the board further than you’d like (whoever has 6 balls would have a 28.5% chance of being selected if my math is correct). It sounds fun though and would give the 6th seed a shot in hell at the 1.01 and the 2019 playoff teams at least a chance at a decent pick in the top half.

Edit due to bad math

I personally don't like it with any chance of the worst team getting the 1.06, and the best team with 1.07. Also, with non weighted tiers, you can use a randomizer over the internet, I would think (although I am not sure how you would show this, either). Ping pong balls mean you need to film it, show your work etc., go out, buy a bunch of ping pong balls etc.

Sign me up for a loss of $6.99 for a 24 pack of balls if the season is cancelled and a ping pong show will be the only excitement we get all year.

I honestly don't understand why you would exclude the winner from getting 1.01 (can't tell from this, if the winner is the only one).
Obv. it is league dependant, but there are surely some crappy teams out there, limping in to play offs and just got lucky, and the other way around some very good teams just got unlucky.

Plus do you also intend to collect full fees for a potential lost season, and hand out price money based on same standings as last season?

I would weighted lottery, based on all-play standings after week 13 (or whatever week regular fantasy season ended).

Horrible option if people have other teams first round picks.

My personal favorite: You don't have a fantasy football season? WRONG!!! someone buys the newest copy of Madden and you still have a season. Simulate the season one week at a time, switch to an "all play format" and play for half of the normal pot (kick the other half to next year). Obviously simulated football is not the same as real football, but you'll still get the same type of fun from fantasy. If you don't want to buy a copy of Madden don't worry, I'm sure there will be at least one website that will run something like this.
Agree that my proposal wouldn’t be good for all leagues. This is a local league with a low buy in, I don’t foresee dishonesty. Also all the 1sts are owned by about 3 teams haha.

The Madden idea I’ve seen before too, I definitely get the appeal, but also understand how some guys hate it lol.

End of the day there’s options and none of em are perfect.

I’m assuming keeping 2020 draft order for next year?

I don’t hate it but I’m playing devils advocate a little here. This scenario means my sig league would get 1.14, which I was hoping for, and ultimately seems fair.

However I could see a team that just won 2019 by a little luck (won another league with a 7-6 regular season), that’s also aging? On the flip side, it’s also easy to envision a 2019 last place team that’s in a really great position.
