Looks like a “we’ll bring him in, take a look, then cut his bleep” type of deal. Cam’s arm has looked worse than 2015 Peyton Manning for 2 seasons now. Happy for him, as he seemed to be dealing with some personal issues last year, but he’s a shell of his former self.

Neither. I’m just a guy who likes a healthy debate, and a healthy debate is one that brings up supporting evidence. I liked your rebuttal as it also had supporting evidence.

Cam isn't a good pocket passer.

Stidham on the other hand isn't a good anything. He just sucks
Yup cam isn’t a great pocket passer, but you have enough evidence to contend that Stidham who’s thrown for 14 yards and a pick in the NFL IS. NICE.
I guess you missed the part where he said Stidham might not be a good pocket passer either. We just don't know yet. It's not the fact that Cam "isn't a great pocket passer" that has led people to wonder about this. He sugarcoated that a bit. It's the fact that we have like a decade of evidence to support that Cam is a pretty terrible pocket passer. It's a known vs unknown thing. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this played out like Foles/Minshew did last year.

Word. It was a detailed post and it’s the most impassioned statement of any kind that I’ve seen relating to Jarrett Stidham.

Before this my strongest take was that Stidham is a good fit for NE because his last name sounds like a town in Massachusetts.

That’s what I’m saying. Running lanes for Michel, more f*ckit throws downfield to guys like Harry, fewer check downs to Edelman and White.
I was about to post that this is a great value bump for White. Newton turned into a capable QB checking down to the RB: Look at CMC's stats while Newton was there. Obviously, I'm not comparing White to CMC. But Newton showed the ability and willingness to get the ball to a pass-catching RB, and Belichick loves using White in that role.

If you owned Stidham, you easily should have known the risk of holding onto him.

Whether Cam plays well enough to get a 2nd contract or extension, TBD, but I'd have to believe that if he's 80% healthy, he'd still be New England's best option.

💯
I tend to cash out on these free add players as soon as they accrue value rather than hold. It pays off far more often than not.

In any case, he didn't get any press/hype because he was bad as a 22 year old junior. His numbers that year compared unfavorably to Jarrett Guarantano's, whoever that is.
I'm curious about this. Can you come back to it? I'd like the source you are using. Which numbers, and compared in which way?

Yup. Good question. I just went to the 2018 SEC Leaders page on sports-reference.com to see how Stidham compared to other QBs in the conference that year, and looked at passer rating and adjusted YPA. He fell behind guys like Guarantano, Kyle Shurmur, Ta’amu, Fromm, Jake Bentley, etc in those categories. Couple the sub-optimal college play with the lack of projectable, physical tools, and I think you’re left with somebody who throws a good looking ball and interviews well.

To be honest, this might not be a terrible thing for him. A little more time to study up and improve physically might help him shine later on, while being thrust into the starting role could have been a nightmare.

Cam to NE is an excellent fit and I only wonder why they didn't do it sooner. Makes too much sense. If he's healthy, Cam adds a lot to that offense.

I think the reason they didn't do it sooner is that by signing now, rather than far sooner, Cam doesn't count against them for compensatory picks.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

That is the exact reason as BB loves his picks. Plus there just wasn't a rush to sign him as it's nobody else was pushing to get him. The longer you hold out the less Cam is likely to accept just to take a "prove it deal."

Didn't realize that. BB really is good at what he does.
