Gurley Trade

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gurley Trade

Postby Never Veto1 » Wed Jun 17, 2020 6:17 pm

So I just did this, and figured I would post it here so you guys can light me up about it.
12 team Superflex with TE Premium

Gave: 2021 1st and 2nd
Got: Gurley and JJAW

Team:
QB - Rodgers, Ryan, Stidham, Winston, Grier
RB - Elliott, Gurley, Jones, Cohen, Coleman, Freeman, Love, Bowden
WR - Golladay, Woods, M. Brown, Miller, Washington, Sims, D Johnson, Harry, JJAW, Pittman, Jeudy, Higgins
TE - Hockenson, Howard, Herndon, Sterberger

In this trade I was thinking in a 2 year window. Hoping to get 2 solid years out of Gurley. I also think Whiteside will have a good 2nd year, especially with Alshon most likely being shelved for the beginning of the season. Also none of the WR's they drafted play the same position as Whiteside. So let me have it.
20 Team Superflex (1/2 PPR / 6pt TD's)
11 Starters - QB 1(2), RB 2(4), WR 2(5), TE 2(3)

QB - Kirk Cousins, Deshaun Watson
RB - Christian McCaffrey, JK Dobbins, Tony Pollard, Jaylen Warren
WR - Odell Beckham, Adam Thielen, Allen Robinson, Donavan Peoples-Jones
TE - Mark Andrews, Jonnu Smith

I won't be too brutal or anything but you should have held the picks IMO.

I don't trust Gurley at all and JJAW is a lottery ticket at this point. I saw potential as a prospect but it worries me that the Eagles not only drafted Reagor but also used two day 3 picks at WR.

You still have holes at TE (maybe Hock can fill it this year but still a ?) and to a lesser extent at WR3 (maybe Diontae, Hollywood, Miller, Jeudy or Pittman can step in this year--and I think one will but still a possible pitfall)

JJAW's breakout--if it happens--will be in 2021 I think with Alshon not getting dealt/cut like many expected

I'd have vetoed that trade...

I mean its not bad, I think its an overpay, but I like gurly's outlook this year. JJAW well hes a dart throw. Honestly I know you said you have a 2 year window on the deal, but its certainly possible that you only get one. If JJAW can't establish a role for himself this year, its doubtful that he will be able to the following year, especially if the eagles invest in the position again. Likewise if Gurley doesn't put together a solid season, I'm not sure that he gets anything except a split backfield opportunity next year.

Finally not that I can see the other teams in your league, but I don't think this trade makes you a favorite to win the league, and I can easily see you missing the playoffs if your WRs stumble. If that pick ends up being a top 6 next year, you're going to be kicking yourself i think.

I'd probably want the picks here. I'd pay a 2nd for him, but not a 1st and a 2nd. JJAW is a borderline wr and this wr class and next years are loaded, so a 2nd for him is waaaayyyy to much. I just don't think your team looks like it is ready to contend and I'd rather have the first.

I wouldn't have made this move personally. The more I think about it, the more I feel like nobody should be making win now moves unless your team is very strong top to bottom. I think it's going to take exceptional depth and/or a lot of luck to win this year with players likely to be missing 2-3 weeks at a time due to the virus. This is a tough move to make even under normal circumstances. Hope it works out for you though! Lol
