Any reason to roster 3 QBs in 1 QB league?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Any reason to roster 3 QBs in 1 QB league?

Postby MFundercover » Thu May 21, 2020 5:25 pm

I've noticed a few teams own 3-5 QBs in my league. Every starter and a few backups are rostered. If I had an injury to Watson or Allen, I could run in to issues on bye weeks, or if they both missed time I could be without a QB, or teams could price gouge me since I would have to trade for one.

Any reason for me to target a cheaper veteran QB?

On my team I fell into owning haskins so why cut him while he has essentially no value now? I will hold him and with a little luck he is tradeable or a solid backup and goff or allen are tradeable midseason or after.

Well, yeah. I'm asking, should I trade a (projected late) 3rd for the best vet qb I can get? Or should I just hold what I have?

I would hold what you have. Watson and Allen are great in a 1 QB league.

Nope, you have two young qb's. Ideally you don't have to address the situation for 10 or so years.

I understand the other posters saying you should be fine with the two you have, but if people are hoarding QBs to the extent where backups are being rostered in a 12 team, start 1 league, I’d pay the 3rd now for the security (if you can swing that). I’ve been in a league like that, and QB prices were through the roof. I tried the approach of “just grab value that the rest of the league lets fall as they foolishly collect QBs”, but ended up getting knocked out of the playoffs multiple years in a row after my old/cheap QBs got injured or replaced during the season.

In a 16 team 1 QB league, a 3rd QB would be a nice luxury. In a 12 team, the ones with 5 QBs must be hurting at other positions.

Looking for something really cheap? How about rostering the backups to either or both of the QBs you have?

Depends on your roster limits really. Our league is IDP and 40 players + 25 player taxi. I draft QBs in the 3-5th rounds because my league mates still would pay 1sts for them if they turn out to be good. If the teams in your league aren’t going to pay up like that if the QB hits and you already have 2 starters there’s no reason to roster more.
12 team IDP Salary Cap w/ contracts 40 man roster + 20 taxi spots | 4 year max contract w/ Franchise(1)/Transition(2)/RFA Tags). Mostly mirrors real NFL.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'd rather pay a 2nd if necessary than a 3rd for insurance.

I think you are good with the 2, but if you are worried go pick up McCarron or draft Fromm in the 4th. Don't waste a decent pick on a 3rd QB.

12 Team--1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1FLEX (ppr) 30 man

Fromm was drafted by another team. A Tate and Olsen are my next players to cut. If Watson went down, McCarron would cost a good chunk faab to add in season.

Cut Olsen and add McCarron now?
