Safety Rookie Rankings - 2020

Postby lukkynumber13 » Thu May 07, 2020 8:21 pm

1. Jeremy Chinn is the only DB I'm truly excited about so far. Should be a lock to soak up Eric Reid's SS role for Carolina, and hopefully his production
TIER BREAK
2. Antoine Winfield Jr is highly regarded as maybe the best football player at safety in this class, but we all know what that sometimes means - getting tasked with patrolling the deep areas of the field, where tackle opp's are more scarce. Still, he would be a terrific SS should Tampa ask him to play there, so he's my DB2
3. K'Von Wallace is my DB3 and I'm already not excited  This is purely a bet on him being used as Malcom Jenkins' replacement in Philly, which is far from a guarantee.

Xavier McKinney, Grant Delpit, and Kyle Dugger all seem to be most likely used as deep safeties, at least early in their careers (Delpit primarily because of his landing spot, Dugger and McKinney because of how they were used in college).

I’m so glad we did our rookie draft early. I snagged Chinn as the 4th DB off the board. I like McKinney as the 2nd. No one else excites me for immediate fantasy purposes.
12 team IDP Salary Cap w/ contracts 40 man roster + 20 taxi spots | 4 year max contract w/ Franchise(1)/Transition(2)/RFA Tags). Mostly mirrors real NFL.

Where does Johnathan Abram fit in with the 2020 DBs? Thanks for your write-ups!

Great job as usual Lukky. I like the K'Von Wallace mention. He's definitely one to keep an eye on as a sleeper.

I think Dugger will be used more like a LB than a safety tbh, dudes crazy athletic, im thinking Bill is trying to find an answer to chase down all these mobile qb's. idk how fantasy relevant he'll be but i dont see him being a deep safety

I’m not seeing any need to draft a CB with this scoring, or most scoring for that matter (as lukky stated). I thought you may have asked that question due to some uncommon scoring. Even in a CB required league (not many out there), I wouldn’t draft a CB as their scoring is so random. In fact, bad corners often score better because they are targeted more. Logan Ryan might be the exception, but now that he’s going to a new team I wouldn’t trust his productions either.

Yeah, really unless like 64+ corners are required starters on a weekly basis there will be starting corners on waivers and as long as a corner is getting close to 100% snaps most of them are basically the same

Haven’t fully embraced IDP is an understatement. With that scoring, IDP is almost negligible. Zaire is a pretty average FF CB in that system, and CBs in that scoring are only worth holding over simply weekly matchup flipping (provided you don’t have limited FA) if a CB is top 10, maybe better. I’d rather roll the dice on Chinn and see if he ends up special, because Zaire is completely replaceable.

Yes and the issue with the league is that people just grab whoever from waivers and can plug IDP gaps. I am going to push for a change to IDP scoring to make it more or a factor.

Also going to rethink my IDP players so Zaire will be going!
