As a chiefs fan Sammy Watkins won't sniff 800 yards imo.

dlf_mikeh wrote: Fri Apr 03, 2020 7:32 am I'm glad someone brought this up, even if it is in a slightly different context, because this contract is puzzling to me. Watkins signed a deal that will basically guarantee him $9m, but it also has incentives that can push it to almost $16m. Most of the targets are pretty obtainable. If he plays 14 games and goes for 65-800-8, he'll earn half of his incentives right there and earn around $12. That's in the range of salaries of such players as DeAndre Hopkins, Adam Thielen, Keenan Allen, and Amari Cooper. He has the best pure QB in the game, and he's not even the #1 guy on his team!

He should have been cut instead of the restructure, imo.
You realize he hasn’t hit 65 receptions in the last 5 years, 800 yards in the last 4 and only scored 8 or more TDs 2 out of 6 years in the league right?

Indy: 6 rec 62 yards
NE: 4 rec 114 yards

Hou: 2 rec 76 yards
Ten: 7 rec 114 yards 1 TD
SF: 5 rec 98 yards

Watkins playoff numbers. He clearly shows up big when it matters.

All about adding an extra dimension and extra weapon for Mahomes.
Yes, but he missed a couple games due to injury as did Mahomes. I think if both guys stay healthy those numbers are achievable.
It seems like you weren’t informed. The targets are possible, sure, but not likely. Keep in mind Watkins hasn’t played a full season since 6 years ago during his Rookie year. Also, Hill was injured last year, Hardman is sure to take on a larger role, etc.

The deal is very solid. They cut down on Watkins salary, and gave him incentives that most likely won’t be reached.
The chiefs couldn’t care less what Watkins does games 1-16, but he’s shown up big in the playoffs and that’s all that matters for them. This is the most talent they’ll have on the squad before Mahomes gets PAID, so it makes sense for them to go all in again.

Good restructure by KC. He is worth 9 million and if he plays great and hits his incentives he will be worth that. It's a one year deal.

A. Cooper is making 20 Million BTW.

Most of us that drafted Hardman had or should have had 2021 in mind for a breakout season. I am not worried, he can really play and should improve this season.

Seems like we agree then. This is basically what I was saying, so I questioned why KC would redo the contract the way they did. But I don't know the full details so that's as far as I can go with it.

From what I can tell, if Watkins can hit on all of his incentives, he would be making roughly the same amount of money as he would of on his previous contract. If he fails Kansas City would save $16 million on the deal. I guess it just kind of gives KC a bit of a financial safety net if he fails to live up to his end of the deal. As a Chiefs' fan and a Watkins owner I'm certainly hoping he succeeds.

Agreed, but the most recent news was that he was stepping away, so I thought a new thread meant he was back haha

No you clearly said you thought they should have cut him instead of restructured the contract and I completely disagree with you. Are the targets POSSIBLE, sure you can say that. Are they probable? Not really.

You say 800 some yards and 8 or so TD? Sounds like he only needs 10-15 receptions with The Walrus and Mahomes leading the way

Cooper is making around 20 million, and Hopkins is looking for similar. I agree Sammy is not worth it, but FA's rarely are. They are usually overpaid. 12 dollars an hour? Now that is more reasonable.

This was really a restructure so he wouldn't get cut. He would have counted 21 million against the cap. He is in the final year of his deal. This was a pay cut.

This adds 5 Million back to KC's cap.

Short as in Watson is history after the 20 season? His window is wide open as the WR2 appears to be all his in 21 as a 23 year old w/ 2 years in Reid's system.

I've never looked up the positional salaries before. I don't know if you're talking average or for the 2020 season. This is what I found. I don't think Watkins deserves to be anywhere on this list imo.
