Trade Leverage

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade Leverage

Postby makemeasandwich » Sun Mar 22, 2020 2:41 pm

Do you guys typically make the first offer, or do you think you lose leverage by being the first to offer? I'm in a few leagues that aren't very active, so I feel I need to make the first offer or none will come in.

I usually ask the owner first if they have any interest in moving a player and if so, what are you thinking. If I feel confident in my offer, I will send it before asking. My league is very active and lots of texting.

I place players out on a list I would be willing to trade. Others in the league do the same and I try to see team needs and will make offers based on that.
I also sometimes make offers just because I really want a player with no knowledge of if he is available.

Also a good way to go. We have a league chat and owners will post players they are looking to move there and positions/picks they are looking for.

If I see a player I want I make the first offer. It's usually a decent deal, probably slightly in my favor and then I include a message stating that I'm open to further discussions

First step is assessing the other owners roster. A contender is much less likely to sell a Julio or AJG than a rebuild. Then send a fair offer that makes sense for both rosters. I usually send my best offer right up front. I’m rarely interested in a counter. I’ve made several deals over the past few weeks so this strategy works for me.

Yeah, I do the same. I almost always am the one sending the first offer, esp if its someone I want, and I typically don't mess around "trying to win" a trade, because for a trade to happen, both sides need to feel like they are winning anyway. Send fair offers, fair offers will come back your way (or easy rejects, lol).

I've had Zeke, Cook, Fournette on trade bait for months and haven't received a single offer. I really need to get some depth on this one squad, but it seems everyone thinks their '20 rookie picks will hit and they don't need an RB anymore.

Rodgers, Cousins
Zeke, Cook, Fournette
Hill, Boyd, Edelman, Kirk
Hooper
No picks

I almost always am the first offer and haven’t had issues. I will give what I’ll give and go in at or damn near what I will do. If someone wants more, I’ll do it or move on. Waiting for others to offer after you reach out gains you nothing. If you want something, make it happen. Few things annoy me more than people asking me what I’d want to give up my player. Not doing the work for them. They can set their line and I’ll walk away or play ball depending where they start.
