Sanders/Ridley for Godwin/2021 late 1st

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Sanders/Ridley for Godwin/2021 late 1st

Postby gabes1919 » Wed Mar 04, 2020 6:35 pm

12 team ppr sf, both teams involved were playoff teams

Was just offered Godwin/2021 late 1st for Miles Sanders/Ridley. Seems like a good offer but I’m a little hesitant based on my depth and wanted some opinions. It’s start 2 RB and the only other startable RBs I have right now are Chubb and Kamara. I do have 1.07, 1.09, and 1.11 in the rookie draft but it feels like trading away Sanders would put me 1 injury away from disaster. He doesn’t really have any other RBs he could ship back other than possibly Damien Williams (depending on how you feel about him)

Take Godwin and worry about RB depth later. Plenty of time to address that between now and the season, and you’ll get a better view of the landscape the longer you wait.

This is true but unless a team is horrendous (obviously in punt mode), I try to evaluate all my trades as if future 1sts are late. His team is pretty good, injuries can change that but I won’t bank on those.

I did end up accepting this trade. Had a little back and forth to feel out if there was another possible configuration that could net me two players returned this year rather than 1 player and a future but in the end, we settled on the opening offer.

I talk with the guy a lot during drafts and in season and think the trade relationship here was an important factor. I think there’s something to be said about accepting a good offer when it is given from the start and not trying to squeeze every ounce of value just because you can.

I knew this seemed familiar. This is in my league hah. When I saw the trade in my email I was shocked. Gabe, I think you made out like a king. Great snag with Godwin and the 2021 1st.

I am the guy on the other end selling Godwin. I often find myself on the wrong end of public perception on deals, which I take as a sign I’m doing the right thing.

I acquired Godwin for Robby Anderson and my 1st round pick last offseason. I was equally criticized as here for foolishly overpaying.

My thesis below in case anyone is interested - this comes down to being super high on Ridley and Sanders and thinking Godwin is at at an all time high and likely to not produce as well next year.

-I anticipate Bucs moving on from Jameis. I think Jameis is the single best QB other than Mahomes at creating value for his weapons due to aggressiveness and negative game scripts created by turnovers. A switch to Rivers or Brady or Teddy B would be a negative to Godwin’s volume and subsequent production.
-Conversely, I anticipate Ridley having a tremendous upcoming year. Sanu is gone. Hooper is gone. Julio had his lowest aDot of his career last year.
-After Sanu trade prior to getting hurt, Ridley averaged 18 PPR PPG, slightly behind Godwin 19.5 PPG.
-Preliminarily see Godwin as ~WR5 in redraft and Ridley as ~WR10. One tier different.
-I believe Ridley will be a late 2nd round startup pick next offseason.
-they are both so young that I don’t care that Godwin is 2 years younger, so market value being ascribed to that age delta is useless IMO.
- Use that perceived difference in value to get Sanders for a future first, which I see as a great gain on my team that is needing Running Backs.
-Sanders was RB 9 in PPR points per game after the bye. — He has a tremendous situation and showed extremely well as a rookie at age 22.
- I believe Sanders is or will be a late 2nd round startup pick this time next off season.
-I think next offseason all 3 of these guys could have equal value and I would own 2 instead of 1.

Also Gabe is great to deal with - I wish everyone conducted themselves like Gabe!!

I would also note that I sold Ridley last offseason for Gallup and Kirk so these things really do come full circle.

Good Trade I would have taken it in a heart beat even if it did deplete your RB's you should be able to replenish it through the draft picks you have.
