Who is the next Chris Godwin?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Who is the next Chris Godwin?

Postby Njpell » Fri Jan 10, 2020 4:26 pm

I was fortunate enough to get Chris Godwin very early in his career in multiple leagues. So now the question is who will be the next Chris Godwin? My best guess is Deebo Samuel, but what are your guesses?

1 PPR, 0.25 PPC, Superflex 14-team league
My team:
QB: Mahomes, Big Ben, Brady
RB: Chubb, Michel, Devonte Freeman, Hunt
WR: D. Adams, M. Thomas, Godwin, Kupp, Tate, Lockett
TE: Kittle, Gesecki

Calvin Ridley should feast with Julio getting triple covered, just need Matt Ryan to play well.

DJ Moore has already proven he can play ball as the WR1 with a bad QB (also helps to have the best RB in the league)
12 Team 1 ppr .1 points per carry
Garbage
QB Jalen Hurts
RB A-train, D'Onta Foreman,Jahmyr Gibbs, JK Dobbins, Rashaad Penny, AJ Dillon, Jerrick McKinnon, Joshua Kelley, TDP, Chase Edmonds, JRob, Zamir White
WR CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, DJ Moore, Hollywood Brown, Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham Junior, Marvin Jones, Braxton Berrios, Richie James
TE Dalton Kincaid, Foster Moreau
+2 Flex
1.02, 1.06

I bought Godwin before the season at roughly the ADP AJ Brown is at now. I expect AJBs value to skyrocket as well. Love Deebo too.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but Mike Williams maybe. Keenan is a FA next year. If they pay Henry to stay this year then maybe they let Keenan walk. Even if Keenan stays if they just got a better QB I think Williams would be great. Rivers is the only thing holding him back IMO.

AJ Brown or Moore are my bets. Moore is not real far off as is, but both are great young players.

What are the parameters to being the next Chris Godwin? This is kind of ambiguous.

If people could predict explosions like Chris Godwin you’d win fantasy handedly every year and be a very rich person selling your methods

To actually answer the question though I’d say three rookies: AJB, Deebo, and Scary Terry. All similar size to Godwin and all have similar athletic profiles to him
Jake Fromm State Farm (12 team PPR SF)
QB: Purdy, ARich (T), Levis (T), Bagent, Clifford, Hall, White, Fromm
RB: Roschon (T), Allgeier, Hill, McIntosh, Demercado, McLaughlin, Mitchell
Chestnut (IR), Wilson (IR)
WR: Addison, London, Jmo (T), Shaheed, Reed (T), Pop D, Der. Davis, Iosivas, C. Jones, Mooney, T. Palmer, Scott, Tucker, Watson, Austin (T)
TE: Musgrave, Mayer (T), Trautman, Gray, Moreau
2024: 1.01, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3
2025: 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4

Sleeper (.5 PPR, 1.5 TE PPR, SF)
QB: Tua, Fields, Cousins (IR), Dobbs, Bagent, Devito, White, Walker, Lance, Hall
RB: Hall, JT, White, Javonte, Ford, Kendre, Allgeier, Henderson, Akers (IR), Ingram (T), Hull (T)
WR: Jetts (IR), Devonta, Jeudy, Meyers, Mooney, Guyton, Rondale, J. Palmer (IR), T. Palmer (T), C. Jones (T)
TE: Andrews (IR), Likely
2024: 5
2025: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

With respect to the GOAT’s question, the parameters would be a wide receiver that hasn’t yet broken out yet but you think has all the tools and is in the right situation to be huge, e.g. Godwin after his first year.
So I would say DJ Moore has already got everyone’s attention with over 1000 yards but not so much Deebo Samuel yet. AJ Brown may be too late given his acceleration end of last year but certainly a target for me.

Yea I thought this would be a cool thread.. I was bummed when everyone started to name the obvious DJ Moore and AJ Brown

I throw another one out there.. Hunter Renfrow!

Preston William's seems similar to me. Would have been drafted in about the same round if not for off field stuff.

I also think D. Johnson Steelers is a guy that can blow up.

Darius Slayton is another guy

Quintez Cephus guy is a stud but played on a run heavy team at WI. Three years in the NFL could really develop.

I was trying to think of guys in lower tiers looking to explode. The homerun or strikeout guys.

These are solid names to put out there.

Im not sure there is anyone though that fits the Godwin mold to a T. Most potential names have shown decently already or have not done much at all.
Kirk, Hollywood, Gallup, Miller, Hardman, PCampbell, Harry, JJAW, or an outside the box name in Perriman.

Thanks. I think you will find AJB is already being highly valued. He's almost off limits in every league I don't have him in, unless you are paying a fortune. If you can get him though, I say do it.

Chris Godwin already had a ton of hype and was hard to acquire coming into this season. Pretty much where AJB is right now. He looks great so far but still not a lock for top 15 asset status.
