2019 Rookie Buy Lows?

Postby PTW32 » Mon Dec 30, 2019 5:04 pm

Overall the 2019 rookies exceeded most expectations.

Guys like AJ Brown, Jacobs, DK, Terry, Sanders, Deebo had great rookie seasons and guys like Hollywood, Singletary, Hardman showed flashes (I know im missing a ton of guys here)

I imagine (and im some cases I dont need to) that owners of guys like Harry, Isabella, Butler, Henderson, and JJAW are disappointed in the lack of early returns.

Doesnt anyone still beileve in these guys or other underperforming rookies that might be had at a discount this offseason?

I still think Harry has a decent chance. He's getting more involved lately and has a clear path to targets. There's no reason he should be given up on yet.

JJAW was the only other one I had any interest in pre 2019 season. He still has a chance to eventually replace alshon and wentz will surely play better going forward?? Maybe? I'll be holding him but not completely sure I'd go out of my way to acquire any of the others listed unless it's pretty cheap.

Irv Smith Jr.

I don’t think people have soured on him but he hasn’t blown up so might still get him at a reasonable cost

I think Hockenson, Fant and Irv probably all showed enough these season to hold there value but Irv probably wasnt picked super early so your probably right and he could be had reasonably.

If people are discounting Hockenson I'd throw his name in there.

Diontae Johnson - His value isn't the lowest, but I still believe it will be even higher next season. There is the preception that Juju is still firmly the WR1 in PIT; but I'm not so sure PIT hasn't caught lightning in a bottle twice with Dionae (another dynamic MAC receiver that makes his chops with crisp route running, and YAC ability despite lackluster athletic measurables).

Preston Williams - Many people have woken up to Devante Parker this season.. but before his injury Preston Williams was actually the alpha in that receiving core.

Drew Lock - While still a work in progress, the jump he's taken from college to the pros has been very impressive. It's going to be very interesting to see how much he improves from year 1 to year 2; but the early returns on his development indicate that we'll likely see another jump in his passing ability for the 5th straight year and he's flashed enough as a rookie that I value him above all of the new QBs coming in besides Burrow and Tua.

Andy Isabella, N'keal Harry, Parris Campbell are all high upside rookie picks that didn't get a whole lot of opportunity this season.

While I like Justice Hill quite a bit, I believe he's more of a strong hold than a buy low given the Rookie RB class coming in next season. Hard for me to bet on a guy that hasn't established himself yet vs that rookie class.

This is going deep, the Steve Sims kid seems to have some skills for next to nothing... I also think Lock will get a solid chance. Haskins after another prep year, as the Skins can’t pass on Young at this point...

QB: I think now is a nice time to get in on Haskins. Shouldn’t be terribly spendy, even in SF. A new coach, high pick, another year of development. Could pay off.

RB: honestly I’m not touching this class in this context. I have Henderson in one league, I’d take a turkey sandwich for him. Jacobs sanders and singletary aren’t buy low kind of guys. The rest are not going to be considerable fantasy starters, I don’t think.

WR: here’s where it’s at. I like diontae, terry mc if the owner is receptive, marquise brown If the owner is worried he’s too boom/bust, etc etc. I’m checking in on AJ Brown and Deebo owner’s time see where they are. I thought this class was nice and deep at WR and my expectations were surpassed. Definitely see what’s out there if you have an active league.

TE: I can’t imagine people who paid up for Fant or Hock are selling, really. I like the idea that someone else brought up with Irv though. Guy is a ball player at a really young age, at a very hard position. I’m impressed. I tend to be elite and deep at TE though, so not personally going after him too aggressively, but while I post this I’m thinking about it

I like the Irv Smith call. I grabbed him in a number of leagues this past year due to the cheaper price. The one I'd bring up is Jace Sternberger. He basically redshirted this year and the ghost of Jimmy Graham has to be gone as the Pack can save 8 mil by cutting his non-catching bleep.

I'm hanging onto Sternberger as well. I still don't get the love GB has for Graham. Jace should be super cheap at this point. Unfortunately, GB has been one of those places where I feel like a TE should break out for years but never does.

Jarrett Stidham - 2019 could be Tom Brady's last year in NE or even in the league...

Darwin Thompson - He seems to have passed LeSean McCoy on the depth chart, and both Damien and Darrel Williams have missed time with injuries.
Boston Scott - Jordan Howard is likely gone, and Scott has shown enough to be the 1B to Miles Sanders in the PHI backfield.
Travis Homer - He looked good vs SF, and there's a chance that both Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny could start the 2020 season on the PUP list.

Mecole Hardman - DeMarcus Robinson is likely gone, and Sammy Watkins could be a cap casualty after disappointing. Hardman has the opportunity to be Mahomes's no. 3 target behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce serving in a Will Fuller type role.
Andy Isabella - He's barely played, but we've seen what his speed can do. Kyler Murray could take more deep shots next year if they improve the offensive line to give him more time in the pocket.
Jalen Hurd - Emmanuel Sanders could be gone, potentially allowing Hurd to step into the 1B role behind Deebo Samuel.

Foster Moreau - He got a lot of red zone targets even with Darren Waller there, and Waller's history of substance abuse suspensions makes Moreau a lotto ticket with high upside.

I do think Hockenson is a by low candidate in some leagues, I have seen a lot of frustration from a fair amount of his owners, which is kind of ridiculous for the TE position, but there are a lot of short-sighted dynasty players out there.
