Claearly the expansion draft was the place to be...both finalists took part. Personally, I blame Jules.
This is more eloquent than how I would have expressed this. I think both teams made some nice moves that got them to where they are, but the dispersal draft was definitely a leg up vs teams who have managed their assets through the good and bad since the beginning.

Personally I do not think the dispersal gave any participating team a true leg up over any non-participating team. A dispersal draft is basically just a large volume of trades as you take a large subset of players and send them to the teams that want them the most. One could just as easily blame thebeast because thebeast traded Ezekiel Elliott to Dookmariot for Guice, C. Davis & E. Engram or Dookmariot for trading Elliott to TitusYoungsLawyer and Elliotts performance down the stretch helped stabilize TYLs playoff push.

I personally believe activity is a key component to success. Another key is being willing to take risks. Both TYL & hockeybjj have shown themselves this year to be very capable of doing both (being active & taking calculated risks). It should also be noted that hockeybjj initially wanted to take the same route Valhalla took, but the early season showed how successful his team was doing, which combined with the reluctance or inaction or fear of other owners to do much of anything, allowed him to benefit. And then he made the astute decision to go for it & made trades to capitalize. Whether or not the team he built through the dispersal gave him a better foundation is immaterial if he does not use that foundation to continue to build a mansion instead of tearing up the foundation & using the land to build a different building long term.

I see it differently. TYL should never have been allowed to be in the dispersal draft. To give an owner who had run his team into the ground a new life is crazy. His prior team wound have never had the assets to trade for Zeke. Most teams don’t have the assets to trade for Zeke or Hopkins, but two of the dispersal teams did, they all came out with a balance of assets to some extent putting them in a good to execute trades. Hokeybjj had not choice but to be in the dispersal and I have no qualms with his team being in the finals. But TYL is a different story. And I do think that two of the 4 teams who took part in the dispersal draft taking two of 6 draft spots says something about the dispersal. I get it, there were trades, but you need assets to make trades.

I'll just avoid the TYL aspect of joining the dispersal as an existing owner as I wasn't in the league when it happened

The dispersal pieces really weren't that great. They just hit at a stupid rate. Guys who were worth late 2nd or 3rd rounders before the season really flashed and produced. I sold on that breakout production for reliable pieces (and frankly got Hopkins and Ingram at a price I couldn't believe. Kerryon, McLaurin, Slayton, Boyd, Fuller, Hyde, Late 2nd bundle)

Here's the draft again if it's public to see
http://www68.myfantasyleague.com/2019/o ... 61756&O=17

Other than Hill, Kelce, 1.01, and Keenan there weren't many good pieces. By the 3rd round, which should be like the 3rd best player on your team, guys like DJ Moore (who before the season, was only a hopeful) and Tarik Cohen were the players being taken.

It was the deep picks that really panned out above their pay grade. Anthony Miller in the 6th chose a great time to come alive for me, Marvin Jones in the 8th was good until he got hurt, Lamar Jackson in the 7th was a hindsight genius move, but there's a reason we all passed on him for multiple rounds. Even taking Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, and Jaemis Winston ahead of him. Ljax was a boom or bust chance.

Even deeper than that, Emmanuel Sanders in 12th won me some early weeks, DJ Chark in the 16th, holy wow. Terry McLaurin rookie pick 2.18 I took in 14th round. Darius Slayton 3.15 rookie I took in 19th round. Those two I obviously sold as part of the deal for Hopkins, (they won me regular season weeks before sold) which is where assets are needed to buy assets, but not like anyone thought they'd move the needle on a Hopkins offer before season started.

None of the guys taken after the first two, maybe three rounds, should have been top 5 players on a championship team looking at this in July. But yet here we are.

See you think Hopkins was a steal and I think you overpaid for him. So it’s a good deal all around. I do think now is exactly the time you want to move players like Hopkins as their value will begin to decline. Maybe not next year, but in e next few years.

2 ways to know a deal was fair/good

Both owners happy with it, or both owners upset with it yet still pulling the trigger

Time will tell on this one who the winner was, depends on how the young pieces in the bundle pan out.

Yeah that is always interesting to see. I have seen deals that both teams were quite happy with that ended up looking disappointing from a perspective 2-3 years down the road. and the reverse as well, deals that neither team was thrilled with, end up being quite rewarding going forward.
