Stay top-heavy or sell for more pieces?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Stay top-heavy or sell for more pieces?

Postby Prison_Mike » Mon Dec 16, 2019 9:48 am

Team 1 in signature (12tm | Half PPR | 1QB)

This team is pretty top-heavy and was supposed to be carried by the Saquon-Zeke-OBJ stack
That didn't happen until this weekend when me & another good but under-performing team had a heavyweight bout for 5th place

I found that I struggled against the teams that were more well-rounded & had better depth (injuries sucked this year)

This was year 1 of this league & I don't want it to be a perennial middle-of-the-pack team, so trying to get some direction

The only pick I have in 2020 is an early 3rd

Should I be selling one of those RBs for more pieces, or hold?
Bonus question: Which position do you think should be my highest priority to improve - (I would lean WR)
Team 1:
12-team | PPR | SuperFlex | 0.5-TEP
Start: 1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/3FLX/1SF
QB: Herbert, Kyler, Baker, Jimmy G, Mariota, DTR
RB: Taylor, Saquon, Javonte, Conner, C.Evans, TDP
WR: Chase, Aiyuk, Olave, Diggs, Hollywood, MT, Shaheed
TE: Engram, Woods, Kraft
'24 picks: 1.08, 3.05

Team 2:
12-Team | PPR | SuperFlex | 0.5-TEP
Start: QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/3FLX/1SF
QB: Mahomes, Allen, Russ
RB: Breece, JT, Swift, Javonte, Mostert, Zamir
WR: Chase, Aiyuk, Nico, Kupp, Hollywood, Kirk, MT
TE: Pitts, Njoku, Woods
'24 picks: 4.01

Team 3:
12-Team | PPR | SuperFlex | 0.5-TEP
Start: QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/3FLX/1SF
QB: Hurts, Dak, Stafford, Z.Wilson, DTR
RB: Saquon, Swift, Achane, Kamara, Ford
WR: Jefferson, AJB, ARSB, Nico, Diontae, OBJ
TE: Goedert, Njoku, Fant, Woods
'24 picks: 4.08, 4.12, 5.12

Does your league have a trade deadline?

I would look to cash out on: Drake and Mostert. I would hold Barkley, Zeke, Kirk Beckham and Thomas. No issues moving anyone else for the right price to try and gain better assets over the next couple years.

It does but it will open back up immediately following the championship (Week 16)

I would look to sell anyone not named SB/Zeke and continue to build off these two, that's a mini dynasty backfield in itself. WR and TE are your weakest areas, I'd try and move OBJ/Kirk/Drake/Coleman/Mostert/Tate/P Williams for a major upgrade at WR/TE if possible. I'd even throw Dak in there if necessary as I think Stafford will continue to be a consistent top 5-10 QB for several more years.

Having depth is great and most years essential, but at the same time, you also need studs to win. Selling your studs for depth and getting a few extra decent players isn't going to help you win against the top teams. I'd look to sell high on guys you think overperformed this year. It would have helped if you had your 1st this year to package it with another piece and trade for a stud. Also, I agree that WR should be your main target.

I think if you really wanted to you could wait a year. But I think you're better off selling Moerstart and Drake. I'd be fine selling zeke too if you can get solid value from him. He always has a chance to just screw everything up.

Sure, when I say sell for a few more pieces I just mean take a slight downgrade while adding a piece; not just selling for pennies
For example, a few weeks ago in a different league: I sold Dalvin Cook for Nick Chubb + AJ Brown

I think a trade like that would benefit me greatly in this league

I agree with selling on those who have overperformed. I'm just unsure of their current value

Drake - He's in one of the more interesting FA situations in the league this year. Starter in AZ next year? Committee back elsewhere?
Mostert- I think I'd have to get a 2nd to sell him, is anyone paying that?
Marvin Jones - I'd say his production will continue to be greater than the return I'd get for him
P. Williams - Injury drives his price down
