And Cowherd said Giants.

We'll see, he'll definitely get a job somewhere.

There have been a lot of mumblings about Marvin Lewis popping up again.
I don't know. I think Rivera could be a HC next year if he wants it. He's a competent HC, who's made a SB and won 3 division titles in Carolina and there's going to be a lot of openings around the league.

I think Dallas looks to make the splash hire with Urban Meyer or Lincoln Riley
Excatly.

The Cowboys need (NFL)experiens IMO, Ron brings that.
Who else could they bring in ? Rex Ryan ?

Mike Tomlin, Sean Payton, BB, Pete Caroll wont go anywhere.
Who else could they bring in? Mike McCarthy.

Have their ever been a situation where a better franchaise say Dallas traded/bought/took a Coach from a lesser team ?

Like could Dallas get Tomlin or Carrol by trading for them.

Dallas hasn't done it, but the Bucs traded a 1st round pick for Gruden and the Pats traded a 1st for Belichick.

I remember there was rumblings that some teams were trying to trade for Harbaugh as well.

I doubt a coach trade will happen, they are exceedingly rare and hasn't been done in a bit over 15 years.

If Dallas is truly looking for an experienced coach, the three biggest options I see are Rivera, McCarthy, and Lewis.

Dallas has a loaded roster, so their lack of success is pretty astounding. They are 0-5 against teams with a winning record this year. Jones basically confirmed that Garrett is as good as gone too.

Garrett is also in the last year of his deal, so keeping him would'nt just be giving him another year, they would have to give him a completely new contract.

It wasn’t really a trade for Belichick. The Jets received a 1st as compensation from the Pats for signing Belichick away from them.

I was hearing the John Harbaugh trade rumors a ton last year. That was of course before Baltimore started playing well. It sounded like a decent idea at the time, although as a fan I knew he was a valuable coach. I just wasn't sure how long it would take to get the team back up and running. Wasn't long. Glad they kept him around

Have we ever seen a Coach getting fired during the season (Ron) and getting a job right away ?

He could be what they need in Dallas, and if he could win the division they could be dangerous.
Dallas wont win or get to the SB, why wait ?

If Garrett were getting fired it would have happened already, they're on an extended week which would have given extra time for the new coach to adjust to the role. They wouldn't/couldn't bring in a new coach from the outside in midseason anyway, he would have little to no familiarity with the staff and system already in place and no time to implement their own. Plus Rivera is going to be in demand when hiring season opens up and could have multiple teams wanting to hire him and drive his price up, while there's no other competition right now. Rivera also gets some extra time off from the grind of being an NFL HC and gets a chance to recharge and prepare for his next job. At the end of the day it just doesn't make sense for either side to make a move like this, and will both be better off waiting until after the season.

Coaching Carousel 2020 version

Postby dark_knite03 » Sun Dec 29, 2019 6:18 pm

Openings in DC, Carolina, and Cleveland so far. Dallas expected to be open tomorrow. With Riveria being linked to the Washington job. Who's the other top candidates? I personally think Roman should get a shot somewhere.

Wonder who the OC will be in Washington if Rivera goes there.

From the sound of it, Mike McCarthy is the favorite to land the Panthers job, though it's hard to determine how good that will be with their QB situation in flux.

Aikman mentioned Norv Turner during the game today.
