Argument for NOT taking Mahomes 1.01 in a SF Startup?
Although i'm relatively new to SF, i think i've played long enough to understand the power of a top tier QB like this. For me, Mahomes is the only player in fantasy i would overpay to acquire.
For the more experienced SF players, why would he not be the 1.01 in a start-up every-time? I understand that the RBs are all highly productive and that QB is pretty deep, but QBs are also likely to retain value for the longest time and Mahomes is looking like he's here to stay for the long-haul.

Re: Why is Mahomes not 1.01 in a SF Startup?
I was under the impression that he was basically the 1.01 or 1.02 in most SF startups already?
I think it comes down to personal preference - both he and Barkley are young generational talents (yes I know that word gets thrown out a lot) - so at least this past off-season if Mahomes was not the 1.01 then Barkley went 1.01. The problem is it always takes a couple of years for a majority of owners to feel comfortable to buy into a player to be the consensus 1.01 - and there are/were bound to be owners who expected regression which means many might not be comfortable taking him at 1.01.
In the end, like I said it is really going to be a matter of preference - I personally have no issue if Mahomes does not go 1.01 - but if he was to fall further than say 1.03/1.04 in a Superflex one would have to wonder ...

Maybe someone who loves Barkely, CMC, Kamara or Cook but I'd go Mahomes. He's a near lock for 30 points a week.
Re: Why is Mahomes not 1.01 in a SF Startup?
He's the 1.01 and it's not really close for me.

im asking why he wouldn't be. My point is that i think its not even close. im looking for reasons why you wouldnt take him at 1.01.

And everybody is telling you, in so many words, that there are no good reasons you wouldn't take him at 1.01.jonesmaster wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 5:00 pmim asking why he wouldn't be. My point is that i think its not even close. im looking for reasons why you wouldnt take him at 1.01.
Actually, I can think of ONE: The BEST reason not to take him at 1.01 is that you wisely talked your league to do their startup draft as an auction, which is WAY more fun, rewards talent over random draft position, and tells you more about what kind of owners you have in the league.

Re: Argument for NOT taking Mahomes 1.01 in a SF Startup?
Not that I buy into all of them, but there are a few reasons:
- Regression
- LJax/Murray
- RB/WR scarcity
- QB surplus
- Most of the community waits on QB in a startup (just pulling this out of thin air, but maybe you could get a better combo later: Mahomes/Deebo at 1.01/4.12 vs. Hop/Dak at 1.12/4.01)
I'm sure there are others too..

Re: Argument for NOT taking Mahomes 1.01 in a SF Startup?
I would say a factor could be the size of the league?
I mean in a 8-10 team league I wouldn't be mad at someone for taking Cmac or Saquon at 1.01 since you know some QB's will be there

Re: Argument for NOT taking Mahomes 1.01 in a SF Startup?
Size of the league, lineup settings, and scoring would be the reasons not to- i.e. a 10 team league that starts 2 RBs, 4 WRs, 2 TEs and 3 flexes with full PPR, 0.25 PPC and 1.5 TE premium, with only 4 pt passing TDs and 0.25 pts per passing yard. Even in that scenario it would be hard to pass on him. I just think Mahomes will have a longer career and a longer time as a top option at his position than most RBs/WRs.

League point system could impact this decision. Elite players like Barkley, CMC, Kamara, Thomas could be more valuable at 1.01 if thie point structure give them more bonus than normal or QB bonus is devalued such that skipping non QB elite talent at the top you miss too much by time you pick 24 & 25.

Not a very good one, either.
