OJ Howard is useless for Fantasy, regardless of how good he "could be". His stats are putrid this year. Wow. I have him in redraft, and I'm going to drop him.
I would say right now hes useless. I just think he isn’t in the right scheme to produce for his skillset. Hes not an elite route runner or have elite ball skills, but he is a pretty good blocker with some legit long speed for a TE.

He would fit in an offense like Seattle’s. A run heavy offense where he can effectively block and leak out and catch some long chunk plays in space after the 60 billionth carry for Carson.

It also doesnt help he’s essentially in a timeshare with Brate who is in fact a good route runner and has some above average ball skills

Its not much of a timeshare. Howard was in for 80% of the snaps last week.

Sorry I was thinking about the game the week before. From what I saw in that game they regularly interchanged him on passing downs and he was even pulled for Brate’s TD. That’s why Brate had more targets and catches in that game. Sorry it’s not so much that he isnt on the field, from what I saw it seems like he was just being used as an extra blocker

Someone was commenting he may be a trade target for NE. Couldn’t imagine a better situation for him. Probably a pipe dream, but it is pretty clear to me this is a bad situation rather than lack of talent.

Oh, I 100% agree, and I was worried that was exactly what was going to happen to him going into the season given the state of the Bucs line and the history of Arians.

He's an imagine type player, though. Would you say that about Godwin? Howard to me was always a tease. Two years of big plays but inconsistency and injuries. Look at his college production. I moved him this off season because I don't see it with the guy. He's athletic, but it doesn't translate to production consistently, and your athelticism tends to decline with season ending injury after season ending injury. Everyone who was on OJ as a top 4-5 TE knew it was the same QB. I'm not saying he's bad, but at every level so far he has not performed to his athleticism consistently, and at this point, to me at least, it's a red flag.

"Howard has struggled to live up to hype that has come with his play-making ability while at Alabama, but some scouts put the blame on the staff and scheme. He has elite athletic traits and raw talent, but must add polish to go along with those attributes. Should become substantially more productive as a pro, but the difference between "potential weapon" and "elite tight end" will likely be tied to his desire and overall football character." -Lance Zierlien

Asked why the potential breakout candidate has yet to break out in 2019, Bucs coach Bruce Arians told reporters to ask Howard.

"You'd probably have to ask him," Arians said. "He's got so much talent and he can play a heck of a lot better than he's playing." -Bruce Arians

Maybe he's somewhat accountable?
"You're a creep. You got caught.." -Dan Patrick

Howard isn't playing well at all, but he also hasn't received a real opportunity in the receiving game this season. His blocking has declined as well.

His blocking has declined because he's pissed off he's blocking and not being thrown to...Arians is there to stay and his systems have never focused onthe TE. Jameis is likely gone after this year and it's hard to see hope unless OJ is traded, because there's clearly a disconnect there and it hasn't got better after 6 weeks...

Wasn't that quote from Arians back in week 1 or 2?

His efficiency has remained high this year. 72% catch rate and 9.7 YPT.

I think Godwin's emergence has really put a damper on things. Jameis just doesn't really look anywhere beyond Evans and Godwin.

Rumour that the Patriots are enquiring about Howard

Even NFL teams know when to try and buy low. ;)

Meanwhile some think Howard needs to convert to WR.

Player A: 6'5'', 231, 4.53 40, 124 burst score, 11.34 agility score, 10.32 catch radius. Listed as WR. Let's give him 55 targets so far this year.

Player B: 6'6'', 251, 4.51 40, 113 burst score, 11.01 agility score, 10.24 catch radius. Listed as TE. Well, he's a TE, so let's give him 18 targets.

I wonder if OJ lost a few pounds and converted to WR if he would receive more Bruce Arians love simply because he'd be a WR (although he pretty much is Mike Evans from a metrics perspective already, aside from weight).

Obviously this is a little bit hyperbole, but posting it to make a point about how Arians doesn't like TE's. PLEASE trade him to NE...
