How about Phillip Lindsay
Agree on Lindsay - underutilizing a first-year pro bowl back is criminal. One of many reasons this franchise sucks these days.
I still can't believe they aren't utilizing him as the true passing-down back. Freeman has as many targets as Lindsay on the season (19), even though Lindsay is one of the better passing-down backs in the league. It's going to be very sad when Theo Riddick returns to the lineup so that Lindsay can lose work to the All-Pro combination of Freeman & Riddick
When I first heard all the new coaching staff was going to overhaul the offense and both cut back and change Lindsay's role after his outstanding season, the current moronic split is exactly what I was afraid of. It's what new leaders and staffs do - come in and "fix" things, unfortunately even things that aren't broken. :eh:

Freeman is a talented back in his own right, why would an NFL coach who does not care one bit about your fantasy team ignore that and leave him benched? Hate to break it to you but Freeman and Lindsay are on the same level talent wise and the numbers with both of them on the field have shown that. Why would an NFL coach make a guy like Lindsay a bell cow unless they have nothing else? I get its frustrating for your fantasy team but an NFL coaches concern is not to wear guys down and get as most talent on the field as possible and in this case an RBBC is the best way to do it. Shouldnt criticize the coaching because its bad for your fantasy team

I can see how someone might look at that way - how some folks see Freeman as a great talent (which I respectfully disagree with) and/or it's purely my-fantasy-roster type of thing, but it's simple to me:

Significantly cutting back that kind of player's role is at the very least... questionable, if not outright stupid.

Then again, forgetting their players, it's quickly become a better-off-tanking season for the Broncos.

Out of fear of putting words in DLF3000's mouth, we were strictly talking about passing-game usage.

Lindsay caught as many passes in his 2 seasons in college as the starter as Freeman did in his 4 years as the starter. Coming out of college, Lindsay profiled as a pass-catching specialist (mostly because of his size & people didn't think he could run between the tackles, but pass-catching was his biggest strength).

Last off-season, when Lindsay was a long-shot to even make the team, he started turning heads with his pass-catching ability. There was a quote from Von Miller during training camp that basically said "this guy is special coming out of the backfield - he should be our 3rd down back at the very least right from the start". That quote turned heads in Denver considering Lindsay was still fighting for a roster spot.

So far, in their NFL careers:
-Freeman has caught 28 / 39 targets for 169 yards (6 yards per catch, 4.3 yards per target). He has not scored a receiving TD, has a long-gain of 19 yards, and has converted just 7 of his 28 catches (25%) into 1st downs.
-Lindsay has caught 48 / 66 targets for 350 yards (7.3 yards per catch, 5.3 yards per target). He has 1 receiving TD, has a long-gain of 36 yards, and has converted 19 of his 48 catches (40%) into 1st downs.

There's absolutely no excuse to give Freeman as many targets as Lindsay so far this year. Absolutely no reason other than poor coaching & play-calling.

As a Broncos fan, Freeman was awful last year. I will give him credit, he looks trimmed down and has played better this season than last. We can debate the run-game split if you'd like, but the passing-game split has been embarrassingly bad.
10-team/.5 PPR/5 Pts per Passing TD. Start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2FLEX (rb/wr/te)
QB: K. Murray, B. Mayfield, K. Cousins
RB: D Johnson, M. Mack, P. Lindsay, C. Edmonds, M. Walton, G. Bernard, D. Thompson, T. Pollard, M. Davis, R. Bonnafan
WR: O. Beckham Jr., K. Allen, C. Godwin, A. Robinson, C. Kirk, D. Johnson, A. Wilson, R. Higgins, D. Robinson
TE: E. Engram, D. Waller, I. Smith Jr.

2020 Picks: (2x) 1, (2x) 3, 4
2021 Picks: (2x) 1, 3, 4

My team

Diggs and Thielen (and Rudolph)
Kaep
Goedert

I just dont see this happening with Keenan Allen there and now with Melvin Gordon back AND Ekeler who is wayyy too talented for them to not give some receiving work too. Its early so you could be right, but i just dont see it. Its been a few seasons now of him not getting the ball. It is mind boggling though because he has some big time talent, especially in the RZ. Just very frustrating to own such a boom or bust guy so i traded him.

:eh:

Call me crazy but i just have never seen anything all that special in Lindsay, and it seems the coaches dont either since he hasnt fully taken the role over. Im not saying he is bad, i am also NOT saying Royce Freeman is a great talent, i dont think he is either. I think they are much more equal talents than some want to believe, and thats why the split. Last year was an outlier for lindsay until he 100 percent proves me wrong. Too many RBs have performed well for one year (Alex Collins, Isaiah Crowell, just to name a few) then have flamed out, especially UDFAs. In the end my opinion is that the two are equal Rb3 or Rb2s unless someone gets injured and a role is fully taken over. For what ever reason the coaches are not as high on Lindsay as the Fantasy Community and its probably for reasons we just dont know about.

Lamar Miller was also a Pro Bowler in the AFC last year. No, that is not incredibly impressive. He had a great season, but he wasn't undrafted because of off the field stuff, he was undrafted because of talent evaluation and size

With Freeman trimmed down this year, he seems to have narrowed the gap between he and Lindsay as runners.

But catching the ball out of the backfield? Well, see my earlier post. There's no reason he should be getting any real volume in the passing game at the expense of Lindsay.
