Trading for the Pats D?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trading for the Pats D?

Postby Phillies6f » Mon Sep 30, 2019 8:48 am

I’m a contender and with the Pats insanely easy remaining schedule I’m interested in getting their defense from a team that’s bottom to middle of the league.

What would you offer? I’ve never even considered trading for a defense In dynasty before so it’s new territory.

T. Smith and the Browns maybe?? Tough to value DEF's league to league. Smith gives the owner a younger piece for the future and he can plug in the Browns.

You don't have a 3rd so maybe your 4th?

I traded for the Pats defense in 2 leagues, and am very happy with my decision as I am contending in both.

One was for my 2020 2nd (should be very late)
One was for a rebuilding teams 2020 3rd (should be 3.1...3.2)

Pats defense is the 10th and 13th overall scorer in my leagues, and that should continue through their bye. People like to talk about positional advantage at TE, the Pats defense is currently the single largest positional advantage in FF.

22.5 PPG vs 2nd best SF @ 14.5 PPG

By comparison, Kupp is scoring 22.5PPG and is the WR2.

Starting around Week 8, they start to play some real teams. I agree they've been great thus far but I wouldn't overpay trying to chase these points. The next time they play Miami is week 17. If your Super Bowl happens to be Week 17, then that would be very exciting. However if your playoffs end in Week 16, less so.
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Xavier Hutchinson
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: All my picks except 3rd rounder

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

Well looking at the schedule, week 14 or week one of the playoffs for many, they play the Chiefs, so that is borderline unstartable. Week 15 though they play the Bungles, and Week 16 the Bills. If you have a stopgap defense for the first round, and can survive, you could have two mammoth weeks from them so I wouldn't say "less so" for week 16 at all. They just held Buffalo to 10.

You already own the Bears, I’d rather hold on to other assets unless you get them very cheap.

They are going to continue to be one of the biggest advantages in fantasy? Good luck counting on defensive touchdowns every week... A 2nd is far too much to give up for a defense in my opinion.

I'm expecting the 2nd to be close to 2.12... if it can win me a championship I'd rather pay that up. People pay more than a 2nd for a rental with less of an advantage.
