New Studs
Rookies and 2nd year players. When do you feel comfortable saying that you have a new stud in the NFL?
I feel like Hollywood and Mandrews are going to be in that conversation at year's end. Perhaps even Preston Williams if he shores up those drops.
Obviously there has been a lot of production early for some of the Young guns, but when do you label them as your studs?

Re: New Studs
None of the players mentioned are there yet. They need to produce top 12 numbers for at least a full year, for me.

Re: New Studs
Barkley. Youngest stud wr I can think of is juju. Youngest RB stud is Barkley. There aren't many studs. That's why they're studs.
Re: New Studs
Barkley is the only "stud" from the last 2 drafts to this point, some might argue Chubb but I wouldn't put him there yet. Lamar Jackson is really close too, but still needs to prove consistency.
If we go back 3 drafts add these guys to the list:
Mahomes
Watson
Kamara
CMC
Juju
4 years:
Wentz (borderline)
Zeke
MT
Hill

Re: New Studs
Yeah, in my opinion a stud normally has to be top 10ish for at least two years...although I would consider Saquan a stud already. No one else, on offense at least, has really solidified themselves in the stud conversation yet. 2018 and 2019 have some potential studs, but most of those guys could wind up as average-to-above-average guys:
A couple guys I think could potentially be studs, but are still a ways off:
Nick Chubb
DK Metcalf
Preston Williams
There’s also plenty of potential IDP studs as well that I’m not naming.

Re: New Studs
I'd pump the brakes a bit on DK and Preston so far, Hollywood is pretty far ahead of them and he's still got a ways to go to be declared a stud.slaughterrt wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 7:58 pm Yeah, in my opinion a stud normally has to be top 10ish for at least two years...although I would consider Saquan a stud already. Josh Jacobs is probably the closest out of this class so far, but I don't think he ever hits the true elite category that Saquon/Zeke/CMC/Kamara/Gurley/Bell currently or recently reside in. He probably tops out as a Melvin Gordon level guy, which is obviously still excellent but just a little below the top guys. Still a ways to go, but he looks promising so far.
Edit: Correction, TJ Hockenson is probably actually the closest to "Stud Status" in this class. Based on Dynasty value I would say he's kind of already there, he's easily a top 10 TE asset and close to top 5. Personally I would value him as the #4 TE in Dynasty already.
Re: New Studs
Disagree on stud status for TJ at this point, although I agree he’s one of the most likely from this class to eventually become one.bjd5211 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 8:10 pmI'd pump the brakes a bit on DK and Preston so far, Hollywood is pretty far ahead of them and he's still got a ways to go to be declared a stud.slaughterrt wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 7:58 pm Yeah, in my opinion a stud normally has to be top 10ish for at least two years...although I would consider Saquan a stud already. Re: New Studs
I said closest to stud status, not that he's attained it yet. Value and production aren't always aligned, so when I say I value him as the #4 TE in Dynasty, doesn't mean I think he finishes as the #4 TE in scoring this year.

Re: New Studs
Yea, it does not seem there are many young studs at all. The league is definitely in a transition period where guys we have seen for the past 10-20 years are phasing out, but also hanging on remarkably well.perkinsrooster wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 7:35 pm Barkley. It looks like we may be seeing the NFL tables turned as the Giants, Packers, Steelers, Patriots, Chargers, Broncos, Saints head down the gutter while the Browns, Chiefs, Texans, Ravens, 49ers etc. rise up.

From this class, the surest bets appear to be Hollywood and TJ Hockensen.

Re: New Studs
I feel like McLaurin is being a tad overlooked here. People touted wait for him to face the Bears and he still performed. He's on pace for 85 receptions, 1370 yards, and 16 TDs. Obviously, nobody should believe that will hold over the course of the season, but he's worth monitoring and his value is climbing quickly for good reason.

Re: New Studs
It's been 3 weeks. I know you've got Brown, but let's pump the brakes a little bit there. In the past decade there have been pretty much 0 stud WRs with his build and play style. Most likely you've got a Desean Jackson there, who was definitely a great wide receiver, but he wasn't a stud. The only stud WR to even remotely resemble his build was Antonio, and he had Big Ben throwing him the ball for a decade. Marquise has LJax, and that's not nearly as good. Both PW and DK project as more likely studs than a tiny field stretcher.

Re: New Studs
McLaurin has been really impressive. I don't know how anyone could not have him as a top 3 rookie WR at this point. He's my #1 From the class, and the best chance to become a stud WR for me. He has size and strength to beat press coverage, is a polished route runner, makes catches in traffic, and has 4.3 speed.Hjorimir wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:42 pm I feel like McLaurin is being a tad overlooked here. If we're talking about guys who have elevated themselves to stud status, Dalvin Cook would be my vote. I think he deserves to be valued like the big 4 RBs now.

Why do so many people discredit other poster's motives on this board? It's super lame and makes me think the rest of your argument isn't worth reading.notweswelker wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2019 1:29 amIt's been 3 weeks.
