Rodgers SF trade. Did I screw up?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Rodgers SF trade. Did I screw up?

Postby Wolfepack28 » Fri Sep 27, 2019 8:50 am

I typically don't have buyer's or seller's remorse but a trade I made yesterday has me a bit confused as to how I should feel lol.

This is a deep superflex, TE premium (2 ppr) and heavy IDP (2.5 points per tackle for DE and 5 points per sack plus yardage lost)

Gave: Rodgers
Received: Metcalf, Herndon, Marcus Davenport

Regardless of team needs, do you believe this is close in terms of value?

Yikes. I don't play IDP, but unless Davenport is a real difference maker worth two 1sts, you sold way low on Rodgers in superflex. As a point of reference, I sold Aaron Rodgers + Zach Ertz + Kenny Golladay for Patrick Mahomes in a superflex league before the season started.

Not a good trade unless as mentioned, Davenport puts up monster points. Tough one but it's done, just have to move forward.

Good IDP's go as early as late 1st. Davenport was a mid 2nd round pick and he would still fetch a 2020 2nd (mid to late) in a trade in our league. Good DE's are hard to buy. He's averaging 14 ppg to begin the season and my next best is at about 8-9 points. Obviously, if he turns out to be a flop, it's not good for me. I'm hoping he can develop into a mid DE1 and score close to 20 per game.

With it being TE premium at 2ppr, I'm hoping Herndon can put up low end TE1 numbers which would be about 15-16 ppg. I only have Rudolph and Irv Smith at TE. If he puts up TE1 numbers, he's going to be valued as at least a late 1st in our league.

Obviously I'm hoping for Metcalf to develop into a beast and be worth 2 1st's. I have a lot of ifs ands or buts in this deal and I guess I risked a lot to just hopefully break even (best case scenario).

This is a mistake I have made in the past. This looks like (but may not be) the typical case of not shopping a player enough to league mates. If you were looking to move on from Rodgers make sure you are getting a fair deal and not just a bunch of potential maybes.

Well it was a bad trade from a value stand point.

Do you feel this trade made your team better, and why?

As others have said, I think you sold low. Probably by at least a mid-1st, and that's assuming you don't believe in Rodgers all that much moving forward. For reference, recent trades in my SF league have included Rosen for JJAW and Bridgewater for an early 2020 2nd. QBs ain't cheap in a SF...

LOL. I'm not going to sugar coat this like others on here. This is atrociously bad, and any attempt to rationalize it is absurd. I wouldn't give up half of Rodgers for that nonsense, let alone all of him. You sold him for less than half of what he is worth. It's that bad.

Good luck though. Wish you all the best.

So... I think you completely undersold on Rodgers. That being said, I think this trade could pay off sooner than you think.

It sounds like you view Rodgers around 3 first round picks then, correct? Where does that put Barkley and Mahomes? 6 first round picks?

I think we agree that Metcalf is a mid first value considering he’s done nothing to drop his value from where he was drafted.

I think we’re discounting Herndon altogether here in a TE premium league at 2 points per reception. With last year’s performance as a rookie, his value could rise to a late 1st value especially in this format with a couple good weeks once he hits the field.

Looking back, did I sell low? Absolutely. But I don’t see anyone paying 3 1st’s for Rodgers considering his age and the mixed feelings on him across the board. I mean, there’s arguments that Metcalf is worth more than a 1st at this point.

The players outside of Metcalf may not be sexy but I believe that I could recoup the same value selling each of these players individually in terms of picks as one would get for Rodgers. Or at least somewhat close.

I appreciate the feedback. I definitely should have shopped him a little more but it’ll be fun to revisit here in 6 weeks and see what it looks like
