Rookie WR's......Look Amazing

Postby Ice » Mon Sep 16, 2019 5:51 am

This past rookie class overall was pretty much blasted by the dynasty community as being weak. Probably due to limited RB depth but it is already becoming obvious the WR class is one of the best we have seen in years.

Through the first two weeks.

3 WR's in the top 30. (4,12,28)
2 WR's from 30-45. ( 38, 44)
3 WR's from 50-65. (52,64,65)

The old school thought was WR's breakouts were typically in year 2-3 but the game is changing. Even so, seeing this type of production out of rookie WR's this early is rare. All three in the top 30 are averaging 14 points or better and the top 2 are averaging 20 plus so far.

Special props to Hardman who ranked 64th due to a bomb TD. What is a bit scary is he had a another Bomb 50 plus yard TD called back due to penalty. M. Brown would have gone over 100 easily except for an early whistle on a missed tackle he broke at the line of scrimmage.

Campbell also showed up and caught a TD in his only target. I expect him to become involved in the near future and crack this list at some point.

This class was full of 1st round rookie dynasty talents.

The early top 4 this year are Brown, McLaurin, D.K. and Samuel.

All 4 of these players are close to must starts going forward even as rookies.

I was thinking the same thing... There goes another rookie for a TD ... I'll add Preston Williams has looked good too in what is a very poor offense.

I actually started Hollywood last second and think he is my flex play moving forward over guys like Davis, MVS and Washington

Agree, Williams is 44th on the list with 2 double digit games.

My early call for week 3 is Deebo as a must start. He gets the Steelers who are terrible covering WR's in the slot.

And let's not forget Josh Jacobs who is the #4 RB thru 2 weeks and is on path to a RB1 season and possibly a top 5 season for an RB.

And my guess is Hockenson will get back on track and post a top 8 season as well.

And of course Kyker Murray looks pretty damn special. He's playing behind a bad o line and has played the Lions and the Ravens and has averaged more than 300 yards and kept the Cards in two games they have no business being in. To be fair, Kyker has looked flustered and has room for improvement. Bit he's clearly on the cusp of being a top 8 QB very soon.

True — leagues where I own the guys you’ve mentioned, I’m excited.

But it’s still early and I don’t anticipate the likes of John Ross & Hollywood Brown finishing ahead of Julio and OBJ.

I’m optimistic, but I don’t think it’ll hold all season.

Agree.

I went all in on this rookie class in a rebuild in one of my money leagues and this team is 1-1 starting 6 rookies with 8 on my squad.

While it's early, this team is top 6 in scoring through 2 weeks. I didn't expect this type of production at all this year but these rookies are showing up in a big way which is extremely rare.

All I remember hearing 2 years ago was

"WOW the 2019 is absolutely packed with stud WRs!!"

Then the actual draft comes and everyones suddenly.. meh
QB - DWatson(HOU)Minshew(JAX)Darnold(NYJ)
RB -NChubb(CLE)DHenry(TEN)JTaylor(IND)Gurley(ATL)
WR -DHopkins(ARI)ACooper(DAL)CGodwin(TB)OBJ(CLE)
TE - HHenry(SD)DGoeddart(PHI)
K - Zurlien(LAR)Crosby(GB)
Def - ARI DAL
[rookie] Haskins(WAS)DSwift(DET)Jefferson(MIN)MHardman(KC)
7th pick in 2021

Rosters must always be 3qbs 4wrs 4rbs 2tes 2kickers 2dst and protected players don't take up a roster spot, but are only for rookie/2nd-year players that were drafted

Gotta also recognize that most of these guys were extremely cheap as 2019 picks were generally devalued.

Ditto. I only play in 1 dynasty league, but I drafted Deebo, Campbell, Mclaurin and Whiteside in our rookie draft. Hopefully Whiteside makes an appearance soon.

I think landing spots hurt the outlook most guys put on the class as well as mediocre measurables by what many deemed as the strongest players in the class.
