Nick Barnet is out

The Packers have informed ILB Nick Barnett that they will release him if they can't find a trade partner.
By dumping Barnett, the Packers can clear $4.4 million in cap space. After they handed fellow ILB A.J. Hawk a five-year, $30+ million contract before the lockout, the money is needed. Barnett has been highly productive ever since the Packers drafted him in 2003, averaging 109.2 tackles per year over his first seven seasons. Still only 30, he will attract significant attention on the free agent market even though a trade is highly unlikely. The San Diego Union-Tribune does expect the Chargers to show interest.

Barnett was a cap casualty on a team that had LB's in place to replace him.
GB apparently has no interest in bringing him back at a lower cost from Barnett's interview on Sirius NFL radio yesterday.
