It depends on the league I guess. I know in my one the 1st overall pick costs $20k and our salary cap is $200k. It's nice having an early pick but you better choose right or your team is in the bleep. That rookie is contracted to you for 4 years. You dump him early and you face a huge cap hit.Pullo Vision wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 6:14 pmTrue, but is an 8th of the team's cap space devoted to an NFL first rounder, like it was in this case? The NFL used to have a structure 2here 1st round rookies were paid alot, but it created cap and locker room problems so it was fixed in the current CBA.Kurt G.O.A.T. wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 6:04 pmYeah, it's not that hard a correlation to understand.
The patriots paid a hell of a lot more for Harry than the dolphins did for Williams. In a salary cap league you pay a hell of a lot more for an early 1st round pick than some player you pick in the 5th or 6rh round of the draft.

I believe he said 8%, not an 8th.Pullo Vision wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 6:14 pmTrue, but is an 8th of the team's cap space devoted to an NFL first rounder, like it was in this case? Harry accounts for 5% of the Patriots cap space this year, so pretty close, but he was also the last pick in the 1st round of the NFL draft. In fantasy drafts Harry is a top 3 pick. Quinnen Williams, the #3 pick in the NFL draft, accounts for 17.5% of the Jets cap space this year.

According to OTC, Q. Williams accounts for just 3.5% of the Jets cap space this year...Vcize wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 10:06 pmI believe he said 8%, not an 8th.Pullo Vision wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 6:14 pmTrue, but is an 8th of the team's cap space devoted to an NFL first rounder, like it was in this case? I understand that in Salary Cap leagues, there's an added element of cost / budget to factor into a player's value.
My point is that added element seems to be broken *if* an UDFA (Williams, who likely went undrafted in the Rookie Draft), is *significantly* more valuable than a consensus top3 Rookie pick after 2 Pre-Season games.
Sounds a lot like last CBA's rookie-scale, when teams were absolutely burdened by over-inflated Rookie Contracts for high picks.

Re: Preston Williams Hype Train
Jakobi and Preston absolutely need to be drafted in the third. What you have seen from them is what you want from a 3rd rounder. 3rd round picks in rookie drafts are usually later round players that you are hoping show out like Jakobi and Preston do. The fact they weren't drafted at this point means a lot less now that they both project to make the 53 and even have a role at some point.

Re: Preston Williams Hype Train
My draft was a month ago and Preston was taken in the late 2nd round (2.08)
We thought he was f-ing nuts. He's looking smart now.
