Thompson is special. I planted my flag during my home leagues rookie draft in June, taking him earlier than anywhere else I've seen. Its still a long shot, but I cant get enough of this kid. Hes so different than any 200 lb back I've seen.

The twitterverse said Damien took the vast majority of first team reps with Thompson mixing in and Hyde was over there hanging out with the twos. I wasn’t there so can’t verify.

Well that escalated quickly, from 4th string to getting goal line work with the ones after one preseason game. I think the hype has/had gotten it of control but this seems to solidify some if that hype. The next few preseason games could be interesting. At the very least, this should whip Damien Williams into shape a little. Put some pressure on him to work through injuries etc.

Wow
This guy is clinging to everything he can. Let's see some Williams pass pro. Darwin is making a case for touches, and some people can't stand it. Darwin looked so good in his first game situation. We're talking about practice, man...

It speaks for itself. I like Darwin a lot, but this would qualify as a huge worry. And practice against starters means more than preseason against guys fighting to make rosters.

That was one of his first days in camp doing that drill.

He obviously learned. His work ethic is double Damiens.

Darwin actually addressed this play in practice, and said it would never happen again, and to this point it hasn't. I think he's going to get touches. He reminds me of Ekeler a bit. Smaller back with big play ability in a limited role. I still expect Williams to lead in touches, but if Darwin keeps it up, he will carve out a role.

BTW. The RB coach has praised his pass pro, overall.

How can you even throw that out there like you have any basis for it?

He looks like any 200 lb back I've ever seen. I think he'll have a role on the team next year, but if he's "special," then you're dropping the bar pretty low.

I would recommend that we avoid speculating on Damiens Williams work ethic like that. Obviously you meant it as hyperbole - but perhaps remember that Damien Williams was basically where Darwin Thompson is now (imho there is not much difference between 6/7 round selection & UDFA) 5 years ago and has lasted this long not just on his talent but on proving to coaches he has a work ethic.

I have soured on the sub 205 (arbitrary) pound back. I have stock piled them in ppr over the years because they are generally discounted but I have decided they are roster cloggers in anything besides best ball. I’ve owned Gio elder sproles hines etc (finished as rb2 rb3 over a season) and you can never start them with any confidence unless everybody of importance is injured around them. Maybe Darwin (sub 200) will pull a Lyndsey but it’s unlikely. Avoid or draft and flip, don’t commit.

I haven't visited this thread in a while.

-- Why is he standing tall vs a guy twice his size?
-- Is it because it's a teammate and he doesn't want to cut him?

Cutting is the #1 technique to take down a guy that size for a RB. Square up, focus on the waist of the rusher, go low, keep your head up as long as possible and run through his thighs, don't sit back, take at least a few steps forward while engaging. Keep your arms/shoulders out for extra width.
This is fine. He's gotta keep his head up a little longer still. A better rusher could avoid this when Darwin puts his head down. Still, this is proof he can indeed do it, and during gameplay none-the-less.

I don’t doubt that he has the guts to stand in there but when barr is coming in hot up the middle and Darwin doesn’t get low he will be vaporized at 190. I’m a sizist though. I’m scared of Hollywood also.
