drafting 1.01 with best team

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

drafting 1.01 with best team

Postby Bstraw53 » Fri Jul 26, 2019 4:29 pm

Hey everyone, any advise for my dynasty team would be helpful. I've read a lot of posts here but never felt the need to ask any questions of my own. I'm stumped and conflicted on what to do with my upcoming draft. Question will be at the bottom.
A few tid bits:
We are going to add a super flex next year.
I have been, by far the best team over the past two years and lost in the playoffs after my bye each of them.
We have a franchise keeper on both offense and defense, otherwise anyone who is 29 or older goes back into the draft pool..

Team:
QB: Mahomes
RB: Barkley, Kamara, Gordon, Mack, Coleman, (Jaylen Samuels- taxi)
WR: Odell, Diggs, Kupp (Tre'Quan Smith- Taxi
TE: Kelce (Franchise), Burton, Herndon, Shaheen
DL: Aaron Donald, Mayowa Benson
LB: K. Mack, Bobby Wagner (Franchise), Kiko Alonzo, (Taxi: Jerome Baker, Roquan Smith)
S: Tony Jeffersn, Jordan Poyer, Bradley McDougald

We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, Flex

OK, My team is obliviously stacked and I could roll through the year with no rookies at all but there are a couple other teams who could contend and I'm tired of losing in the playoffs.. Normally, Vets don't start coming off the board till mid 2nd round or so.. We have TY Hilton, Edelman, Fitz, Golden Tate and DeSean Jackson on the board.. I own the 1.1 and have a shot at Harry or any of the top RB in the class. I thought I was sold on Harry but have recently cooled on him and have tried trading down but cant get the value.. I'm really high on David Montgomery right now. He'd probably just sit om my Taxi for a year or two though. (For every year you sit on taxi squad it adds a year to the age cutoff before needing to be franchised..

I know that is a lot, but I'm just curious if you guys have any strong feelings on what you'd do here. Like I said, I've tried trading down but nobody seems willing to give enough to move up to 1.1.. do you consider adding TY as a 1 year WR for insurance or draft Harry due to my lack of depth.. Or do you go with the talent you've scouted and roll with the WR core you have.

Sorry for the long post but I think there are a lot of factors that need considered here..

If you are adding a SF next year, would it be a consideration to take Murray at 1.01? You will need 2+ QB to compete starting next year and Murray adds huge upside to your already stacked team.

This was my initial thought. But I play to win every year, so I'd probably go the WR direction. When it changes to SF next year, you will have plenty of QBs over the age of 29 to choose from in the draft, or look at a rookie then.

Good luck!

What is the likelihood of a rookie WR helping your team this year? Not many WR instantly step into a big role. It may happen, but it's more likely Harry, Deebo, Campbell, Metcalf go through some learning pains year 1. I'd lean an RB that will produce now (Jacobs, Monty, sanders) or Murray and plan for the future.

He's not limited to rookies - any veterans 30 years old not franchised by another team is also available, like T.Y.

People are saying take Murray because they saw the switch to superflex. However they probably didn’t read far enough to see that players over 29 are out back into the draft pool. Meineymoe has some good thoughts. Unless Murray turns into a sure fire QB1 there should be better veteran options available every draft.

I would take Jacobs. You'll take Murray, but a one-year starting QB with a coach that had a losing record in college; committed to playing baseball because he never believed he would play in the NFL. Yeah, I'd take Jacobs. You can flip him for more at the end of the season before you switch to SuperFlex.

It's 12 team. I actually run two of them exactly the same way. People love the format and franchise player rules that add some extra dynamics to roster decisions and the complexity it adds to rookie drafts.

Thank you to everyone who posted already. To be honest I think you made my decision harder now! I was leaning towards waiting on QB since we will have a lot of older vets in the draft each year but you may have a point if Murray is going to be the superstar fantasy QB we all seem to think he will be.

His team is built to win without the 1.01. A rookie WR isn’t going to do anything for him this year. As soon as it goes to Superflex, Murray is far and away the most valuable and could even be more useful this year than a rookie WR.
