Under the radar IDP's

Postby Eagles4life » Sat Jul 20, 2019 6:09 am

As training camps are set to open, who is your favorite under the radar IDP player whom you are most excited to follow during preseason?

I'm most excited about Cole Holcomb, LB Washington

4.5 40 time
6.77 three-cone (would’ve been the best of all LBs at combine)
39.5 vert
11’0” broad
22 bench reps

**He was a combine snub, which was unfortunate, these are his pro-day numbers.

Athleticism is noticeable in his tape, he moves smoothly through traffic, he’s always moving and never caught with idle feet, is a great tackler and he’s unbelievable in coverage (he was literally a no fly zone for opposing QBs while at North Carolina).

He' had 17 Games with 5+ Solo Tackles during his collegiate career, with 14 double digit total tackle games. Last year vs Georgia Tech he had 22 total tackles (12solos) and 3 FF in one game.

He probably would’ve had higher tackles numbers if he wasn't asked to play in coverage so much at North Carolina

With the way the NFL is heading towards, athletic LB's with the ability to move sideline to sideline and possess good coverage skills are becoming the norm... I think this kid has it in spades!

With a strong preseason, coupled with the injury to Ruben Foster and shallow competition for that 2nd ILB spot, I think he's got a solid chance to be a contributor to our IDP lineups on a week to week basis. If not at the start of the season, certainly by mid-season.

i like the situation quincy williams finds himself in. the fact the jags felt they had to take him in the 3rd tells you how much they like him.

Jarrod Wilson SS - Jax
Started the last 3 games, put up solid numbers and they signed him to a 3 year deal - with Smith gone he may get a few more tackles than in years past

I think Ronnie Harrison is the SS in Jax. Wilson is still gonna start just at FS.

So I have had Holcomb, SDH and Williams all on my watch list. If you were to rate these 3 in what order would you do so? I’m struggling on these 3 guys.

Hmmmm that's an interesting dilemma!! Personally, I'm biased towards Holcomb, but it's conceivable both SDH and Holcomb are their starting ILB this year. I prefer Holcomb simply due to his athleticism and strong coverage skills, if he can pick up the playbook quickly and have a strong pre-season he could be the more valuable LB to own both for the short term and long term imo... SDH is not as athletic and has an injury history with his knee. Quincy Williams (I'm assuming that's who you were eluding too) is still pretty raw, but will be given every opportunity to lock down that role in Jax, he's got some veteran competition with Jake Ryan and to a lesser degree Len Jacobs. If you're focused on short term production/opportunity I'd lean Holcomb, SDH, Williams. Long term I'd lean Holcomb, Williams, SDH.

I just think Holcomb possess all the traits NFL teams look for in a LB nowadays, athleticism with the ability to move sideline to sideline, he can sift through the garbage to make plays, has strong coverage skills and is a sure tackler.

SDH did have some positive buzz earlier this season. Yes I know about the 2 knee issues, which is why he may have dropped in the draft, but he seems to be good to go now. I was hoping to watch training camp reports before jumping on a WAS LB however now I may have to act quick if I wanted one of them considering the Ruben injury and now the release of Foster.

I'm liking the other WAS LB- Josh Harvey-Clemons. He's probably the best coverage LB on the team; therefore, should see appreciable snaps.

I’ve heard Chris Board is nailing down the starting ILB job in Baltimore.
Don’t know much about him but he’s a guy I’ve picked up in all my leagues

Been reading lots of good praise about Cody Barton from camp. Think he can carve out a meaningful role this season behind Wright and Wagner?
