Sick of Being in a Rebuild

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Sick of Being in a Rebuild

Postby TheGunSlinger » Sat Jul 20, 2019 2:19 pm

I took over a team last year that was absolutely terrible, made some trades and have a roster full of rookies and maybes (basically a team full of dart throws: D. Henderson, D. Singletary, Boykin, DJ Chalk, M. Lee, R. Foster, bad I know ) and it will be terrible again this year. I do have 4 2020 rnd 1s, 3 2020 2s, and 3 2020 3s. I hate being in rebuild mode, but next years class is really impressive.

So here is my question, do you be patient and wait for the 2020 draft and reload and then wait probably another year, or do you sell the picks and build around some young active players? I love younger WRs as the start of a rebuild and will wait on RBs. What WRs do you target? (DJ Moore, Pettis, etc)

sorry for the long post.... just curious of people's opinion on a rebuild.

Ride it out. Accumulate upside players or more picks. If guys like Singletary, Chark, Lee and Foster have big weeks, grind them into more picks in 2020 or 2021. Hendu is a keeper. I have been through this, scout well and be patient. Look how Adams, Juju and Nuk turned out. I drafted Adams, no one drafted Nuk or Juju coming out in leagues I was in. Patience is so important. There is a lot of satisfaction in taking 2-3 years to build a yearly contender.

Agreed, keep building, stock piling picks and adding upside young talent where possible. Stay young and patient.

I tried to jumpstart my rebuild and it set my rebuild back probably 1-2 years. My advice is be same as the rest, be patient unless a deal you can’t turn down comes across the table

Took over team in sig 3 years ago and havent used a 1st round rookie pick since. It was a terrible team. It has been fun but havent made the playoffs once. Build through the draft. Oh I had 1.12 in the rookie draft once and it traded it on the clock for Josh Gordon. Ended up being David Johnson.

I'd see if you can cheaply acquire dante Pettis or Curtis samuel. Maybe even Matt brieda wouldn't give any first rounders. But could help start a bit.

I would not be opposed to trading picks for young players if you get really good value. I would not be in a rush to do so either. Be patient, accumulate assets. Focus on WR obviously, TE or QB if the right opportunity presents itself.

Keep building your team!!! You have Darnold and Maholmes set for the next 12-15 years at qb, and Peterman waiting in the wings, lol. Barkley at rb. You need quality wrs and a rb2. Be patient and keep building.

Yeah. Wait it out. Target injured players as the year goes on. Also try to get some back up rbs and or qbs. If they get any opportunity, flip them.

After a season or two in a rebuild, you’ll be surprised at the quality of your team. But be patient with the 2020s. You know they will be at max value when on the clock. You aren’t winning this season so no reason to trade them now. Wait for max value.

Hold your picks. If you're looking to retool a little, I would move David Johnson. I dont think he fits with your timeline and he still has solid value. If you know know you arent competing this season DJ makes no sense for you.

If you really want to retool and build around WRs your build is one of the few I've seen that it might make sense to move Barkley. You could fill out your roster with a few starters and then fill in your RB hole in the 2020 draft.
