Grade this trade for me

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Grade this trade for me

Postby Indyfan1985 » Thu Jul 18, 2019 6:47 am

Its a 2 QB PPR League.

I dealt QB Jimmy G, RB Duke Johnson, and my 2020 3rd

I received back the 2019 4th overall pick, his 2020 2nd, and QB Teddy Bridgewater. (I honestly could see Teddy B. being the starting QB for the Saints within the next year or 2)

My team is set at my 2 starting QB positions with both Mahomes and Luck, and honestly at the 4th overall pick, Kyler Murray may be there for me. If not I still do have Josh Rosen/Ryan Fitzpatrick on my bench.

I also have an early 2nd round pick, and a late 2nd round pick to possibly address another QB if I absolutely had to.

If you dont believe in Jimbo, it's not a bad deal, but I think you should have got more for him in a 2 QB league.

That's the thing I'm not completely sold on him. Part of it has to do with longevity and health. Plus I already have 2 other 49er players in Kittle and Coleman. And if Murray were to fall in my lap at 4th overall, and if he were to make an instant impact, he would be a major trade asset or great 3rd QB behind Mahomes and Luck.

This is clearly an F.

It's a 2QB league and you traded a starting QB for a backup one, a second round pick next year, and a fourth round pick....

And there should be a zero percent chance of Kyler Murray making it to the 1.04 in a 2QB league. He's the consensus 1.01 in that format.

even if you are not sold on garoppolo, someone in your league might well be, so i think you sold short.
having other niners doesn't make much of a difference.

i think garoppolo will be better than murray, but even if that was not the case, i doubt really much murray slips to 4th in a 2QB league, especially with not much else at QB apart from him.

I value your opinion, but I'm looking at the long term here. I do not need Jimmy G at all this season, and come next season I will have at least 1 more additional young starting QB on my bench to replace him, who will more than likely have more upside. The QB class is much better next year, and I have my 2020 1st, an early 2nd, my 2nd, my 3rd and 4th to work with.

Plus if I took someone like Haskins or Jones in the 2nd round this year, that player could be starting by next year also. Again I'm not sold on Jimmy G. If I were, I probably would have asked for more. The trade value chart graded it as an even trade.

well you're all set then...

i mean, you said yourself you have no need at QB and that next year class is better... and still want to pick murray. so why can't 2nd and 3rd overall guys think the same? why can't the first overall trade out of 1.01 for an established WR from a team with need at QB? why do you assume people will draft based on need and not on value?

that said, it's your league, you may have noticed patterns on the way they operate and fair enough if that's the case. but you ask for grades to people who don't know your league.

regardless of whether murray will be there or not, i still think garoppolo/niners is better than murray/cardinals.

Shouldn't matter. Murray is the 1.01 by far in 2QB formats due to ceiling and positional scarcity. If Murray falls to 1.04 in your 2QB draft, consider yourself blessed.

Thanks for your take. Do you at least see where I'm coming from with the whole 2020 QB draft class and having many picks to address that position for another starting QB for my bench then? And I have my doubts that Jimmy G blows up this year since he hasn't really done much to this point.

Regardless of your assessment of your team or your strategy, you should have absolutely gotten significantly more value for Garopplolo in a 2QB.

I hate this deal. I feel like this is an example of using your opinion on a player and projecting it to someone else's opinion giving them a cheap buy.

You aren't buying Jimmy G, who cares what you think about him. The guy buying him has the only opinion that matters. I think you sold low for a backup QB and a dart throw. I could honestly see Duke getting traded and having value that will truly make this deal get crushed.
