Could have big implications.
Well, I think there’s no better time to threaten that sort of thing. With Bell having just done it and Gordon not really needing preseason action either way, he’ll never have less risk and more leverage behind such a threat. That said, doesn’t the Spanos family still own this team?

I don't think it's good. Gordon has some injury concerns and rbs are fairly replaceable and have shorter careers. SD could just let him hold out and then franchise him.

We've already seen that hurt the overall money for Bell, would Gordon be willing to do that?

yeesh, i'm all for players getting theirs but idk if Gordon is in position to do this. Depends how much he’s asking for I guess.

I feel like the majority of time these deals get done before the season starts. Situations like Bell's are the extreme, not the rule. I expect him to be in the starting lineup one way or another by week 1.

It's still early..

But this is worrisome. I own him in 2 of 3 leagues.

If something isn't done by preseason, then owners should begin to worry a little. For now, it's just business. I would try to inquire about Ekeler or Jackson though...although now might not be the best time.

The Chargers are in a good position to win it all and have the talent throughout the roster to do so. The problem is going to be how worthwhile is a long-term contract for an aging RB with some slight health concerns and a QB retiring in two seasons or so.

While there is slight precedent in what Bell and Gurley did, there is some precedent on how that can backfire on you for both team and player.

If he is asking for Gurley money, he doesn't deserve it and this will be a long process if he believes that is his worth. I think dynasty owners should have some concern over this process. But my guess would be Gordon plays for a team in the 2019 season, don't know if it's for the Chargers.

If last season is any indication, i'm not sure Ekeler would see a huge increase in actuality, though his value obviously increases perception-wise. I wouldn't imagine Gordon would miss the full season, or a lot of games though. The team wouldn't role with Ekeler as any sort of lead back in the future either, so it is all short-term perception. Jackson goes from nothing to something though, and would see an increase in his output (from nothing to something).

An interesting situation to follow down this stretch run though for sure.

I can't imagine this deal doesn't get done before the season unless Gordon is getting some terrible advice from his agent. Bell just proved that sitting for a season will cost Gordon money overall. Gordon fits the Chargers offense better than he would just about any other offense in the league. The Chargers do not look as good without Gordon and they are a legitimate SB challenger with him out there. The Chargers are not in cap hell. This is a situation where getting a deal done is definitely in the best interest of both sides so they will make it happen.
