How much do you pay to play?
How much do you pay to play?
I'm trying to set up a league and I'm finding that $100 per season seems to be scaring players away (it seemed like a reasonable amount to me). I want it to be a friendly league but sill competitive. If you got to set the league fees what would they be and what would the payouts be? Help me find a balance between competitive greed and fun.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
USFL Superflex: $30 / $50 / $70 depending on franchise size
DLF PL: $20
DLF EBS: Free
I spend a total of $50 per year on league fees plus MFL fees. Cheap hobby. Round of golf usually costs more.
That said, I'd love to do a high roller league of about $500 someday with the right guys and an independent commissioner.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
I pay various from $10-$200, most are $30 or $50 though. From my experience, the buy in (at those levels) doesn't really change how owners conduct their business. Honestly the $200 league has more lopsided trades than the lower buy ins imo. Fortunately ive benefited from those trades or i would have likely dropped it because i see no point in playing in leagues that i have no chance because of how others run their team. (Not fun)
Maybe the buy in is scaring some away but i dont think $100 is bad as long as you get educated owners. My reservations when joining a league ( especially the more expensive) is not knowing the others and if they are idiots that will make ridiculous trades and ultimately ruin how fun the league is. I dont want to play in a league where kamara gets traded for 1.6, nuk is sold for a late 1st, kelce is traded for fant, dak goes for 1.2 ...you get the idea. Those trades may work out, but the value is clearly off and the higher the entry fee....the more discouraged i get when i see stuff like that. Fear of something like that may be the issue rather than the buy in.
Id suggest that you try to get ppl that you trust to run their team well, rather than just any random owners. Maybe you dont know or have enough interest to fill a league....id bet you could get some help filling it from the owners you do know. The last thing you want is to start a lesgue then have owners leaving right away because they dont find it fun.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
i just play for the glory.
i wouldn't mind having a league with people i know personally paying around a bullseye, but if it is strangers on the internet i would be uncomfortable with much more than a score.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
$80 Home League (12 teams)
$65 Internet League (30 teams)
$50 Internet League (28 teams)
Currently looking at joining a $125 league with 32 teams.
I don't think i'd join a league with less than a $50 buy in, and not sure I'd go above $150 just to keep things reasonable and avoid situations where people leave due to having to rebuild and not want to fund the expense of doing so.
For both of the Internet leagues, I joined not knowing anyone and have not had any issues. Have met some good people. Commissioners have done a good job replacing the deadbeat owners. Some deals go down that aren't great regardless of the league formation type. It's unavoidable and you got to work through it. Sometimes they work out in the long run, and people get to manage their own teams. Push come to shove, anything can happen in playoffs and with injuries.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
On orphans that I pick up on different sites I range from $25 -$75 all dynasty. Orphan rebuild seems to have become my addiction over the last couple of years so the lower dollar amount helps.
In my main leagues that we meet together and draft and play in both redraft and dynasty together it ranges from $100 ( longest running league I have of 20 years) to $500. All100% payout and as I said draft day is best day of the year on the redrafts because we all get together. I also have a co owner in those leagues .
Just did a startup dynasty league that I joined online and it was only $30 but is one of the most active leagues so far.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
$6 per week is a very modest buy in, so if that is scaring people away, gambling is just not for them. Nothing wrong with it, but i consider $100-250 your average money leagues where people are looking for a slight extra incentive (beyond the fun of the hobby). As far as competitiveness, my free league seems to have just as much dedication as my lower buy-ins, mentioned above. Personally, i start taking things a little more seriously when it gets to $500 and up.

Re: How much do you pay to play?
Everyone is going to be different, I'm paying 45 and 50 in the two leagues I'm in where I know the majority of the players personally. Hometown type leagues even though now we're spread out over a few states
For online only leagues I'm in two of those as well, and those are only $20 each and I really wouldn't pay more than that. I'll join a couple 10 or 20 church/coworker/family redraft leagues depending on whats coming up when the season gets closer
