Garoppolo vs. Murray
I found it interesting that Murray has a higher ADP then Garoppolo by almost 3 rounds. Garoppolo has done well in a small sample and Murray hasn’t played at the NFL level yet.
What’s your opinion on this ranking? Do you think this is just a bit of rookie fever? Who would you rather have? Who do you think will have the better career between the two?

Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
Has Garoppolo done that well in a small sample size (for fantasy)? He's had seven starts as the 49ers QB and scored 20+ points three times. His ceiling might be a low-end QB1, which certainly isn't bad, but I can understand why folk would chase Murray's ceiling instead.

Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
Not a bad start for getting used to a new offense. Garoppolo did well in his 3 starts in NE too. I understand Murray has a potentially high ceiling with his running, but that also comes with potentially shorter career due to injury risk.

Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
In a one-QB league, I'm chasing the ceiling. JG's likely isn't high enough. Though I'm not sold on Murray, his ceiling is higher.
SF/2QB, though, and JG easily for me. No way that I'm gambling JG's high floor and high-enough ceiling to chase a QB whose range of outcomes is as wide as Murray's.

I'd say Garoppolo >= Murray. I wouldn't add much to either one to get the other.

Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
I'd rather take the chance on Murray tbh, when Nick Mullens puts up similar stats as a Joe Blow out of USM....is Jimmy G all that everyone wants him to be? Dunno.
On paper, Kingsbury is going to implement a pretty QB friendly offense...that alone has me optimistic on Murray at the minimum.

Well said. I had the chance to acquire either as my QB2 in SFlex and went Jimmymoishetreats wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 2:43 pm In a one-QB league, I'm chasing the ceiling. JG's likely isn't high enough. Though I'm not sold on Murray, his ceiling is higher.

If I owned Jimmy G I would be very happy to swap him for Kyler.

During a startup I tried trading Jimmy + for Murray and it was declined

Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
I agree with the upside take. Similar value IMO, and to be fair, Jiimmy really hasn't done much to solidify his value. I go with the upside and youth here.

Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
If Garroppolo isn't good or gets hurt again this year he's probably gone with the way his contract is structured. I've heard some talk of Mullins passing him, though not sure I remember where or what the credibility of it was. Just the existence of the narrative is a bit concerning, with trade value being mostly based on perception.
Re: Garoppolo vs. Murray
Mullens averaged 284.63 yards per game which equals 4560 yards over 16 games, that would have been 7th in the NFL.
Mullens had 13 TD's in 8 games, 26 over 16 games, that would have been 12th.
It's one of a couple of things:
- Mullens is good?
- JG's ceiling probably isn't that much higher than those stats above ^^
- Is JG truly good? I think SF could get out from JG's contract without a ton of pain after this season.
- Or are they both system QBs under Shanahan, but interesting to note that Shanahan didn't find Mullens. Denver's new OC did.
I'd rather roll the dice on Murray.
