What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I'm in a 10 team league, and we're having a discussion about roster sizes. I wanted to see what others in the community think a good roster size would be for our league requirements. I know the norm is 12 team leagues, but we are a local friends league so finding 12 teams isn't easy and 10 is where we are at right now. Our starting rosters are 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE), so 10 starting roster spots. We don't have any type of taxi squad, but we do have 3 IR slots for players who are on the PUP or IR only. Our rookie draft is 5 rounds.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
None of the above.
I would say about 40.
30 is decent too though, esp if you have some dynasty newbies and want the wire to be okay.

Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
Ha, yeah I probably should've gone higher. But I wanted the values in the poll to reflect what is being discussed in the league so I didn't. The point you make is great.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I think 25 should be enough, that leaves 15 on the bench which you probably won't go that deep in a 10 man team, wouldn't be opposed to bumping to 30 though to basically build in a Taxi Squad.
Great call on the 2QB setting btw, QBs would be nearly worthless otherwise. Can I suggest also expanding it to 2TE to give them some more value in the smaller league. 10 team leagues get knocked some, but I think 2QB & 2TE would really improve them.

Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I think 25 at a minimum would suffice - especially if you wanted to compare 10 team values to 12 team.
A 10 team 25 man roster would be similar to a 12 team 21 man roster - and enough of those exist with Quest / Master / FFPC type dynasty leagues that 25 would work.
Personal preference would be for 30+ though.

Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
25 and then 2-4 spots for IR/Taxi is a good number.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I'd increase starting requirements to 3rb, 4wr
So 12 starters and then roster size of 25
So 12 starters and then roster size of 25

Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
Nearly all of my leagues had multiple requests for roster expansion. I wouldnt hesitate to make it 30. That covers 300 players. Something tells me that if you go 25...your going to wish you had more in short time.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I'm in a 10 team league with similar starting requirements and we run with 25 roster spots during the season, 30 roster spots in the offseason so we don't have to cut players before the draft if you still have your 5 rookie draft picks.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
Never really understood the point of expanding rosters only to "have to cut". If the point is to decide who you want on your roster....just hold the draft right before the season.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I'm in 10 team with idp- start 18, we just expanded to 40. that feels about right- enough space to compete and allow for stashes

Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
We like to have the rookie draft right after the NFL draft. So we expand to 30 players for the rookie draft and the remainder of the offseason. We like to have 25 man rosters during the season because it allows you to find some decent value on the waiver wire throughout the season.
Most teams could cut down from 30 to 25 pretty easily right now during the offseason if we did just keep it at 25 roster spots year round but it keeps people engaged in the offseason when they can add the rising OTA stars in your 29th or 30th roster spot even though they will most likely be cut entering the regular season.
Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I like larger rosters because I like to stash my guys. I have had to dump quite a few guys who turned out good. In 10 team though if you want it to be a little more flexible, I think smaller rosters are better. Too much talent just sitting on benches

Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
I am a fan of the idea of making rosters as deep as the rest of the league will allow. This makes the waiver wire less valuable and therefore makes drafting and trading the only real ways to improve your team and therefore much more important

Re: What should roster size be for a 10 team league?
Thanks for the feedback so far! Lots to chew on. My main concern with going smaller is I hate people being able to pick up startable players off waivers every week. Yeah it happens on occasion, I just don't want it to be able to happen every week because to me then what's the point of dynasty? We're at 28 players right now.
