Trading AB

Postby UsualSuspects » Wed Jun 05, 2019 7:01 pm

Was it just the pre draft rookie fever or is the market on AB way depressed. In my league no one wants to trade for AB.
Anybody getting anything resembling fair value for him out there?

He is a hold for now. No reason to sell low on AB. Wait until the season gets rolling if you want to move him. His value is too low right now.

I offered Mike Williams and 1.11 and was rejected. Might be better off in the long run but was surprised given Williams' surging value and Brown's seemingly depressed value.

Well he's at the age where WRs nose dive which is scary. AB isnt most WRs and he's probably still got a few years of solid production but I don't think we're going to see anymore 1600 yd seasons out of him

I would easily decline Williams and 1.11 for AB, or make that deal on a contender.

I was offered Moncrief and a 2nd for him and told that he is a “major risk.” Then I was offered Lamar Miller and Austin Hooper. Both were insta-declines. Definitely a hold for now as people are losing their minds on his value.

I wouldn't sell Brown for that either. Everyone is just scared that Brown is going to be terrible on OAK, but he's going to get a ton of targets, especially with OAK's terrible defense forcing shootouts.

Moved AB for AJG & 2020 1st.

Felt like it was a mini cash out, while still being able to compete with an established top vet.

Pretty happy with the deal thus far.

The problem with AB, is he is a headcase and in a much worse offense. He will still likely produce solid numbers, but also he is a declining asset, despite his talent not declining. I get that Mike Williams and a late 1 is an undersell, but ABs value is ONLY going down, it will never go back up because of his age.

This time next year, you will wish you could get a wr equal to mike williams and a late 1 for him. Part of the problem, with most trades, is people want to win now and in the long term, but in some cases taking a small loss to cash out on a player a year early, is Substantially better than waiting an entire extra year, only to get less next year.

I moved him in one league, where i am not competing, for ARob and a 2020 1st, and it was the best deal I could get.

Also in a couple other leagues I am in, no one can get value for him, so either ride him into the dirt or take a small loss on his current value.

Trading AB is pretty difficult honestly no one wants to give adequate value for him, I would just hold him honestly. I've been trying to trade AB for two years and i didn't get anything close.

I'd disagree with this a bit. If AB puts up big numbers the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the season, a contender would pay fair market to potentially a slight overpay if their weak at WR, for AB who would put them over the top.

While his value is depressed right now because of the trade, his usual attitude, and rookie fever, it'll go back up in season when people are reminded he's got at least 1-2 more years of elite production left in him.

Let's revisit this in a few months, when AB is 6 months older. I get people will pay for him, but his value is going to continue to decline until then. People still want to win trades now and later, the point i was mostly trying to make is that it is better to sell early than late. Most people trying to sell AB NOW are already late to sell him.

Selling vets in the offseason when people are rosterbating to youth leaves a limited market. As people start setting their lineups and chasing playoffs, value increases. It always happens. There is no declining that as players age there is a natural decline, but there are additional variables beyond just age. Plus, selling for less than his current value is only leading you to sell for the value he will be in a year, while losing the year of production he's proven he can give. Selling at value he will be in a year doesn't make sense. If you're in a smaller league and not competing and feel the need to move him NOW, then maybe. Every market is different. He's worth more generally though. Your timing may just not be right.
