I only saw what red zone showed, but that included a nice double move on a deep sideline route for a 30 yard catch. I also think Rosen looked for him often when he came into the game, so could be positive for production moving forward

I think Arizona is just a mess right now, but I am hopeful that Kirk will be one of Rosen's favorite targets, they have a good connection. This offense has been so bad people are second guessing David Johnson, so I think it will be difficult to evaluate the talent of Kirk or Rosen even over the course of the season as long as the offensive coordinator stays the same. Also at this point we can probably assume they will have a new OC by next year, which is good, but changing offenses could also slow down their development.

Maybe that sounds overly bleak, I just think this is a situation that will take some patience. I think the combination of Rosen, Kirk, and DJ will make a very nice offense if they can get rolling.

Postby hoos89 » Fri May 10, 2019 9:20 am

How do people feel about Christian Kirk post-NFL draft? Are you worried about the additions of Isabella and Butler, or do you think that's offset by the addition of Murray?

Not really worried this yr. While I expect them to be okay (Isabella & Butler), rookie WRs don't tend to make a massive impact. Kirk has already caught passes from Kyler back at Texas A&M, so I only expect that rapport to build up even more. IMO this is an excellent time to buy Kirk if you find an owner that is nervous.

As a Kirk owner, I've had lowball offers for him post-draft. I think that he's primed for a 2nd year breakout, so I would take the gamble and let Kirk grow. He's still only 22.

Would you mind sharing some of the offers you received? Were there any you thought were close?

Kirk is now surrounded by other WR talent in a spread system. I think his upside is limited at this point. I was never super high on him, but this draft really clouds things.

I agree that his ceiling is more capped now than it was pre-draft. That said, in 4/6 Kingsbury seasons at Texas Tech, there's been a receiver distance themselves from the pack, to become the number 1 target.

If that happens with Kirk remains to be seen, but I agree there def is more risk now. Regardless, it's going to be interesting watching this Arizona college ball experiment this season.

Shhhh I don't need ppl talking about Kirk. I think he'll be the one to emerge as their #1 and I've been picking him up at a discount because others are enamored with the shiny new toys.

I got an offer of the #14 overall rookie pick, which I thought was laughable. I'd get someone like Andy Isabella at that pick, so why not stick with Kirk? It makes no sense considering Kirk was picked around there in a far stronger class last year. Kirk played well when he was on the field with a horrible QB and miserable offense, so his value should have gone up, not down.

I drafted Kirk in the 9th round of a SF PPR startup a couple months back. Traded him for D. Freeman pre-draft. Still like Kirk moving forward but was even happier with the trade post-draft.

Kirk is imo one of the most affordable breakout candidates out there. Him and Kyler are literally best friends and still were when Kyler left A&M, he fits KK's offense perfectly, and he started to play pretty well last year before he got hurt. There will be a ton of opportunities, passes, targets, and while we may not know the pecking order I'd bet on Kirk breaking out asap and being the guy to own. I own him in 2 leagues and tried for more, I'm looking to trade for him in others this off season.

FWIW, on playerprofiler Kirk comps to Diggs, Isabella comps to Lockett, and Butler comps to Brandon Marshall. For unproven players I sometimes check out their comps just to get a sense of how they might be deployed in an offense. I wouldn't recommend setting expectations based on the comps, but I can easily see each of these Arizona receivers being utilized similarly to their comps. It's actually Fitz's presence that has me wondering who will be the odd man out in the next year(s) until he retires.

1. Kirk racked up 1,000 yards receiving as a true freshman at Texas A&M.
2. Christian Kirk outproduced Larry Fitzgerald as a rookie.
3. Kirk's 26.8% dominator rating was 23rd in the NFL among WRs, as a rookie. This means he likely would've been a 1,000+ yard receiver if the Cardinals threw for even 4,000 yards-- which should be very attainable in an up tempo, high passing volume offense.

Kirk came into the league as a very good prospect, and has already proven to be a quality NFL receiver.

4. Most receivers make a massive jump from year 1 to year 2.
5. His competition for touches are now a year odler (Fitz), and 2 very green receivers that are struggling through OTAs; and one rookie Receiver taken in the 6th round.
6. He ran a similar offense in college, putting him even further ahead of the curb.

So he's a quality receiver that could become even better this season, and his new competition are incredibly overrated at least for this season. And while we don't know exactly how things are going to shake out in the long term, Kirk came into the NFL with by far the most impressive college profile.

The potential that this offense blows up is there, but I like Kirk's chances of at least being a 1,000 yard 6TD receiver this season; with the potential to become a building block for your fantasy team.
