Drafting Eric Berry?

Postby Never Veto1 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 10:17 am

When would be the perfect time to draft him? I have not done a lot of IDP drafts. This is the original draft and it is for only Defensive, no offensive players. What round is a good one to pick him up?
12 Team 1QB PPR
8 Starters - QB 1, RB 2-3, WR 3-4, TE 1

QB - CJ Stroud, Justin Fields, Matthew Stafford
RB - Breece Hall, Zach Charbonnet, Dameon Pierce, D'Onta Foreman, Chris Rodriguez
WR - Garrett Wilson, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, Nico Collins, Christian Watson, Jameson Williams, Michael Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marquise Brown
TE - Cole Kmet, Luke Schoonmaker, Darren Waller, Jelani Woods
Picks - 1.02, 1.09, 2.02, 4.02 -- All 2025 Picks

After you have as many LBs and DEs that you can handle, then start looking at d-backs.

of course, if you have a favorite, you may need to jump in early... but in general, dbacks can wait until the last few rounds.

meineymoe is SPOT ON... having not done an IDP draft in a few years and having a mancrush on Berry I took him in the 10th rd (113th overall) of a 48 roster spot startup:

10.05 113. Spoils of War Berry, Eric KCC S

Hindsite being 20/20, I would have waited till all IOP starters and some backups were filled and had a good corp of LBs before loking at Berry. Probably (no certainly) wouldn't have landed him, but my team would have been better off.

meineymoe/MR ROURKE/Vintage are a wealth of IDP info here. Look through their posts. I did for a second IDP startup and was much more successful, coming away with a good draft IMO.

Let someone else take Berry early and struggle to find IOPs to fill spots during the season.

Yep, depends on your starting requirements as well. LB's and DE's are worth more.
Depends on your starting requirements.
Standard 2DL, 2LB, 2DB... I likely would even consider a DB before the 7th if it's IDP only players. Although, you can't control what crazy people do and someone might grap your specific target by then, however... there will likely be someone who scores as much or more still available.

If the draft is IOP and IDP, then just forget about getting Berry and concentrate on other things.

If I were targetting Berry, I'd have to grab him shortly after the first DB's start coming off the board. Berry's not yet a top 10 DB imo, so I think expectations are reasonable to target him once Chung, and Landry go off the board.

He was the 13th overall pick (2nd round 1st pick) in our IDP only draft. There was no way I would select him that high. I'll move on, and take my DB's when the value is there
