Damien Williams - convince me
HELP
We did our startup last week and I took Damien Williams in the 8th round.
I can’t decide what to do with him.
I feel like if I’m going to sell - the window is now, while he’s playing well. If he plays poorly this week, people will write him off and he’ll have little value
But I also think he’s looked fantastic since getting the nod. And I want to think he’ll keep the starting role (even if it’s just for 2019)
Team is in signature, I think I could afford to lose him even if he were the starter. I would just regret it if he gets an RB1 workload next year
NOTE: I would only sell if I could get a 1st out of him. I’d rather have his upside than a 2nd or later
So....convince me one way or the other

Damien Williams is just an average talent in a great situation. That situation can change with a high draft pick or a free agency pickup at any time. He may be great for a time but this is the NFL(Not For Long).

If you can get a first for Williams, it's worth pursuing.
If not, I don't see why you would sell him. The possibility that he helps your team win next year is more enticing than a random 2nd rounder or something. He could easily return solid RB2 value in a committee and may be an RB1 depending on matchups/additional volume.

I should have specified that I would ONLY sell if I were getting a 1st. Because I agree, his upside and the chance that he ends up being the starter in 2019 is worth far more to me than a 2nd round dart throw

Re: Damien Williams - convince me
I think the narrative that he is an average talent is incorrect. He has plus size, speed, and hands. I don’t know what I’m seeing that nobody else is, but he looks like the starting rb for the chiefs. Rb 1.

Re: Damien Williams - convince me
If you took Damien Williams that high it seems likely you are more convinced on him than most of us are. Most would be happy to sell for a late 1st value and thats below 8th round startup value (imo). So basically you bought high on a guy many feel will be a sell low 4 months from now.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..
Re: Damien Williams - convince me
Nobody knows man. If KC chooses to roll with D Williams and they just draft like a 5th round rb for depth, D Williams is worth more than the 1.1
If they use one of their two seconds on a back, (80% chance imo), then D Williams has handcuff value only
How to play that risk reward game is entirely up to each owner. Personally I'll hold unless I get a mid 1st as taking a swing for his 20ppg in that Chiefs offense is worth having some regret at not selling for a random 2nd when I could have

Re: Damien Williams - convince me
I can't agree with this. He is still in danger of 1 week missed early in the year and that 5th rounder going off from being largely irrelevant again. There is not nearly as much value insulation on D Williams as anyone taken at the 1.01 this year. I just don't see anybody paying that for Williams, regardless if KC drafts a back high or not. He'll be 27 and has had a few good games in a potent offense. Never been relevant before this, that's not going to get anybody the 1.01 PLUS. There are no NON Williams "owners" thinking this way at all. It's fine if that's what it takes for you to part with him, but he won't be "worth" that, in terms of overall community value.hockeyBjj wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 7:25 am Nobody knows man. The list of players that can describe who never matter in fantasy is very long.
One can plausibly land the next Barkley, Zeke, etc with a 1.1, or trade it for a 100% proven blue-chip player, etc.

Re: Damien Williams - convince me
I've been about as big a Dame Williams zealot as there is since the Hunt news broke, and even i think 1.01 is steep.
As with nearly everything in dynasty, his trade value is very team/league specific. The offseason will be interesting for him and he could easily gain steam if KC doesn't draft a rb early or bring in a big time FA.
As a contender in a deep league where it's impossible to trade for rbs, holding for the potential of even a single season as a starter in that system is worth more to me than acquiring a random second right now.

Re: Damien Williams - convince me
If hes the starting RB in an Andy Reid offence hes headed for RB 1 numbers. Simple as that.

Re: Damien Williams - convince me
Andy Reid seems to be a loyal to a fault guy. Stuck with McNabb, Maclin & many others too long. If you play with your heart & soul THEN produce at a high level you will still get your turn.
Kind of a Duce Staley back. Does it all above average but not elite at anything. Versatility goes a long way in a Walrus run offense. Can pick up blitz, run inside & outside with ability to run downfield routes out of the backfield. Add in they just gave him over $8mil two year contract don't see the Chiefs drafting a RB too high from this draft.
He's not a Hall of Famer but he might be a lite version of Terrelle Davis who just fell into the right system, right coach at the right time.

That contract isn't what it seems. There is very little commitment in it, and they can cut bait fairly easily, without much cap hit at all. I find this to be one of those threads where people's opinions of the outcome lie heavily on the optimistic side if they are invested in the player.cazzie33 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 5:24 pm Andy Reid seems to be a loyal to a fault guy. Yeah, this isn't some king's ransom: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city ... ams-15723/FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 6:04 pm That contract isn't what it seems. There is very little commitment in it, and they can cut bait fairly easily, without much cap hit at all.
Not sure where the reported 8 mil is coming from. I guess that's from potential incentives?
Regardless, this degree of pay does not obligate KC to keep Damien atop the depth-chart next year.
