Hunter Henry or O.J. Howard?

Postby ajf235 » Wed Dec 26, 2018 7:28 pm

These two are easily the most obvious breakout TE candidates for me in 2019 and I think they’re gonna round out the clear-cut top 5 in 2018 (with Kelce, Ertz and Kittle being the other three) who I anticipate to all be head and shoulders above the remaining TEs in the league. I’m not worried about Henry’s ACL at all given how long he’ll have had to recover and the fact that ACL injuries aren’t nearly as debilitating to TEs and WRs as they are to RBs. Henry’s 2016-2017 were very similar to Howard’s first two years in that he flashed elite upside but was held back by a lack of targets due to the presence of a steady veteran. However, now Henry’s path is cleared for a true ascendance in 2019. While Brate will still be in Tampa, it was pretty clear this year that O.J. Howard was THE GUY at TE this year, and his role should only grow going forward. So who do you guys prefer in 2019 and beyond?

I think you hit the nail on the head. These 2 round out my top 5 and likely most people's top 5 TE. Henry is ever so slightly ahead of Howard for me. It is mostly due to situation and my image of Henry being the next Gates (let a man dream). I think he is a great overall threat in the passing game. The target share there will be interesting. We haven't seen as good of a WR2 there, but we also haven't seen Henry without Gates. I think Henry holds the higher upside week to week.

Howard in the other hand is a physical freak. Moreso than Henry, and could have a Gronk like takeover. Emphasis on the COULD, because he's tied to Jameis for now. Now don't get me wrong, Winston can be great for fantasy, I just think consistency will be a myth for Howard. I'm not too concerned about Brate, but he is a red zone specialist. Might steal a few TD. Howard also is a slightly bigger injury concern. Henry has the 1 injury but this is 2 now for Howard.

Njoku, Engram and Ebron get some love behind them and it will be interesting to see where this past season's rookie class gets ranked in as the off season progresses. Guys like Herndon and Andrews will likely break some members top 10, but that may be premature.

I have Howard slightly ahead. I think there will be less competition for Targets from the Bucs and I think he's a better athlete. Both are fantastic though

I prefer Howard to Henry.
I think the top 3 are in a tier of their own. After that I have Howard, Henry, Njoku, and Engram all together in the next tier.
