Mayfield for Lindsay + 2020 2nd: Why can’t I pull the trigger on this??

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Mayfield for Lindsay + 2020 2nd: Why can’t I pull the trigger on this??

Postby M-Dub » Fri Nov 16, 2018 1:42 pm

Was offered Lindsay and a 2020 2nd for Mayfield for the team in my sig. I already have Brees and Wilson, but I’m also pretty set at RB going into 2019 and beyond. Still, as a lifelong CU fan, I’ve loved Lindsay for years and have been touting him on these boards longer than anyone. This feels like a slam dunk, but for some reason, I’m hesitant to pull the trigger.

I think it’s because I just can’t make the leap to viewing Lindsay as a transcendent talent. It’s been a joy to watch him exceed even MY expectations, which were quite a bit higher than probably anyone’s besides Lindsay himself and his immediate family. I think he can certainly be a viable fantasy starter for several years, but I don’t see him ever becoming truly elite. With Mayfield, I have no problem at all making that leap. I think he could be a top 2-3 dynasty QB as soon as next year, but in a 1QB league, does that even really matter?

I’m not even sure if I’m asking for reassurance here or just a slap in the face. I rarely ask for trade advice anymore, but this one has me genuinely flummoxed. I don’t really have a favorite NFL team, but Baker and Lindsay are probably two of my three favorite NFL players, along with Ertz.

If it matters, I’m likely to be a playoff team, so Lindsay definitely helps me more ROS, but I don’t see him being the piece that puts me over the top.

That's too much value to pass up on. Even if you don't need Lindsay, I'm sure you can move him and that 2nd for someone better than Baker.

I think Lindsay would help your backfield alot. I am big fan of Lindsay buy have the same concerns as a long term viable option but he's exceeded all expectations so far. Maybe he can't be the guy long term but ROS he def could help IMO.

I think that you're hesitating for good reason.

1) I don't see Lindsay as a long-term answer.

2) While he'll certainly help you more than Mayfield this year, his impact is reduced in a start-one-RB league.

3) With Guice on IR, your RBs aren't in dire need long-term.

4) Mayfield looks legit.

Bottom line, Lindsay would fill in the back-end of your flex rotation nicely. But, is he a difference-maker this year for you? Probably not. And, this time next year, I'd wager that Mayfield is the most valuable asset.

By 2018 "value", yes, it's probably an accept. And if you see Lindsay as a potential difference-maker in terms of making a run this year, then this offer merits strong consideration. But, I think that you'll be regretting this by the start of the 2019 season. It's not just about value now in fantasy.

You’ve followed him, you’ve praised him, you want him on your team, you need him on your team. Just accept. Sometimes we just have to take a player just because we like him.
