So...about this IDP stuff

Postby Ghosted » Sat Aug 25, 2018 10:54 am

After many years of reluctance, I am finally dipping my toes in the IDP waters, and tbh, I feel like a fish out of water (even though I've been playing dynasty for a long time). I'm humbly reaching out to you IDP degenerates for some help tackling a start-up. I have read the pinned threads, and they've helped, but I figured I'd attach these settings to get a little more in-depth insight.

The league is a 12 team / 2QB / PPR / 11 starters on each side, broke down as follows:

Total Starters: 22
Number of Starting QBs: 2
Number of Starting RBs: 2-5
Number of Starting WRs: 3-6
Number of Starting TEs: 1-4
Number of Starting DT+DEs: 2-7
Number of Starting LBs: 2-7
Number of Starting CB+Ss: 2-7
Total Number of Starting Individual Defensive Players: 11

Scoring:

Number of Defensive Fumble Recovery TDs 0-10 4 points each
Fumble Recoveries (from Opponent) 0-10 5 points each
Opponent Fumble Recovery Yards -50-999 .1 point for every 1
Number of Offensive Fumble Recovery TDs 0-10 6 points each
Number of Own Fumble Recoveries 0-999 2 point for every 1
Own Fumble Recovery Yardage -50-999 .1 point for every 1
Forced Fumbles 0-999 3 points each
Number of Interception Return TDs 0-10 4 points each
Interceptions Caught 0-10 5 points each
Interception Return Yards -50-999 .1 point for every 1
Passes Defensed 0-99 3 points each
Number of Blocked Field Goal TDs 0-10 6 points each
Length of Blocked Field Goal TD 0-999 .1 point for every 1
Blocked Field Goals 0-10 10 points each
Number of Missed Field Goal Return TDs 0-10 6 points each
Length of Missed Field Goal Return TD 0-999 .1 point for every 1
Number of Blocked Punt TDs 0-10 6 points each
Length of Blocked Punt TD 0-999 .1 point for every 1
Blocked Punts 0-10 10 points each
Blocked Extra Points 0-10 5 points each
Tackles 0-99 1 point each
Assists 0-99 0.5 points each
Sacked a QB .5-25 5 points each
Sacked a QB Yardage 0-100 .1 point for every 1
Tackles for a Loss 0-25 .5 points each
Safeties 0-10 10 points each
Number of Defensive TDs 0-10 6 points each
Defensive Conversion Returns 0-10 2 points each

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the positional valuation numbers, it does seem that elite DE's are the most valuable. With these settings, it broke down as follows last year:

DL1: 181 pts
DL12: 118 pts
DL24: 93 pts

LB1: 188 pts
LB12: 148 pts
LB24: 130 pts

DB1: 197 pts (take away Jackson's crazy return yardage year, and #2 was 173 pts)
DB12: 140 pts
DB24: 130 pts

Knowing what you know, how would you allocate your draft picks and what would you attack first, and when approximately? I don't want to get buried right out of the gate haha.

Wait on IDP. Take undervalued (but still very good) DLs later on. Don’t start taking safeties or LBs until almost at the end.

I knew I could count on you, man haha. Thanks. So in a 45 round draft, when approximately are you attacking IDP's? Are you influenced at all by runs? Do you find it easier to load up on DL early at the end, or does that matter with 11 starters?

Lukky is the man. The most valuable IDP resource on DLF is his signature.

Directly after the 2016 season, I did my first startup. The IDP side was somewhat similar to the format you’re describing. Take a look at my post discussing my thought process.

Obviously the player names will be different 1.5 years later, but I think the principles I talk about in that post still hold true. And BTW, I definitely regret taking some of my IDPs as early as I did. Leo Williams especially :(

I could definitely see attacking them earlier w/ your settings. The site that hosts the league I'm joining has around 40+ leagues going with those def requirements, and the start-ups are kind of all over the place with where IDP's are going. Bosa usually leads it off this year, but he can go anywhere from the 7th to the 12th+. Guess I'll just kind of see when the runs start and hope for the best

I like linebackers, and I would probably be going in with the idea of starting seven of them. Go find middle linebackers, guys who are 3 down guys, and just players you like because they always seem to be around the ball. Dbacks I always take late (dime-a-dozen). You can probably stream them during the season if you don't like the guys you drafted, until you find some that work for you. Def linemen always slip through the cracks - so you should be able to find some serviceable ones later. I prefer DEs to DTs, especially since you don't have to start any.

Have fun! -oo-

I figured I'd be streaming LB's, too. But when I looked at the top 100 defensive player totals from last season w/ these settings, it threw me a little bit. They broke down as follows:

Top 64:

DL: 11
LB: 25
DB: 28

Top 100:

DL: 14
LB: 38
DB: 48 (CB 24 | S 23)

I'm guessing LB's are the more popular stream option bc they are more consistent week-to-week (?), but I'm not really sure what to make of it from a value perspective.
