Steelers Backup RB's Poll

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Who would you want if Bell moved on next year?

I'm probably in the minority, but I love Samuels. He's worth the roster spot.

Assuming they let Bell walk (I don't think that's likely), I want the RB they draft in 2019 to replace him.

This exactly.

Highly unlikely Connors or Samuels becomes the heir to Bell if he walks. They will most likely be drafting a high end RB in 2019. With Big Ben on the retirement side of 36 it would shock me they don't get a deal done with Bell....you know who a rookie QB's best friend is? The best RB in the NFL lol

Agree with the above that Pitt will find a better replacement than what's currently on the roster.
The only shot one of them really has is if they can get a game or two of increased usage and really wow the brass.

I could also see Pitt playing the discount game and going hard after a guy like Tevin Coleman who is vastly more talented than their backups and would cost 1/2 of what Bell wants at most - probably less than that.

Either the 2019 rookie like Skip said, or whatever free agent they sign.

It would be atypical of the Steelers to go the route of a free agent to be a starter at an offensive skill position. They have added backups via this route (Blount, DeWill, etc.) but not their starting RB. My initial thought was that the last one they acquired was Jerome Bettis, however that was via trade not as a free agent and it was over 20 years ago. While that doesn't mean it's not possible, I suspect it to be improbable.

Agree with this 100%

IF bell isn't back (but I think he will be), it'll be a FA like Coleman, or higher draft pick taking the reigns.

Yep. I love Conner (Hail to Pitt) and Samuels is interesting but if they let Bell go and don't either sign someone or draft someone to replace him, they will be in trouble.

I like Samuels as he has the potential to be involved in the passing game too. I can't see Connor ever making any impact and agree with what is being said, if Bell goes, someone else will come in to be the starter.
