Coming off a 1-12 season...Help wanted

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Coming off a 1-12 season...Help wanted

Postby skiptomybru » Wed Jun 06, 2018 7:00 am

I am in a 16 team, 25 man roster league. Extremely competitive, and I'd say most of the league really does their homework. Allen Robinson was the ultimate foreshadowing to my season last year. Ended up with 8 guys on IR at one point. Silver lining: Saquon Barkley

I don't want to get stuck in the middle of the pack with my team, but there's a solid young core right now. Any advice moving forward?

You are set at WR and TE for a 16 teamer. You need to come out of this draft with one of the QB's and draft nothing bur RB's otherwise....

Also drop Maxx Williams as soon as waivers are open and take a shot at a RB/WR
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

With Barkely, your RBs aren't the worst I've seen in 16-team leagues, but you need help there for sure. I agree with murphysxm, but I'd probably grab a couple QBs to have a better chance at a hit. One of the top ones and then someone like Rudolph. Then throw the rest of your darts at BPA

Thanks. I did have the 2.01 (17) and 3.01 (33), but traded those for Sterling Shepard. Otherwise QB would be the focus with those picks. Our draft is June 14. I'll probably post the first three rounds so others in 16 teamers can get a look at where everyone landed.

Otherwise, any ideas on moves to be made would be appreciated.

Good value for Shepherd. Try to trade into the 2nd to get a QB

Your team is in better shape than your record implies.

Adding Barkley is definitely going to help your RBs and pairing him with Crowell as your 1-2 will stabilize that position. I'd prefer to sell the 1.01 because the value is just much higher on the pick than Barkley will ever produce but I suspect at this point you've already turned down all comers.

There is no way you are getting a QB with any of your other picks in a league of this size so you will need to trade. I'd move one of Sterling Shepard, Cooper Kupp, or Kenny Golladay. At least one of them will get you into the late 1st (Kupp, most likely) where you can get one of the rookies to pair with Bortles. It's not as though you are hurting at QB. Bortles is a low end QB1 in aq league of this size but you do need to add someone.

Agreed, I'd trade Kupp.

That's interesting seeing as I just suggested doing the opposite so you could get a QB. I think you hurt yourself with this move even though it was a good price. Being in a position of needing a QB, this was not a move I would have made.

I've received a ton of heat for Bortles being my only QB. No one believes in him, especially in our league. That being said, I just don't want to risk losing one of my pieces for a second QB until I know where I'm at. It's hard enough to develop the depth you need to compete week to week. I shut down all Barkley offers quickly. Being a Penn Stater makes it too easy of a decision for me. I'm okay with being overly biased on this one. I wanted that 1.01 so badly, and was lucky enough to get it in our draft lottery.

I also would not have made that trade for Shepard. Not because of the value, but because you need more than one piece. It would be one thing if you were competing for a championship and you just needed that one last piece, but when you are a bottom dweller with a young team that is trying to rebuild, you need the picks way more. Just take Barkley this year, and then keep rebuilding, you are on the right path. You would have been better off keeping the 2.01 and grabbing a QB, but that ship has sailed.

I'm higher on Bortles than most I think, but even I think he's a QB2, even in a 16 team league. You will eventually need a better QB if you want to compete, but you are probably not competing for the championship this year, so no rush really.

Bortles over the last 3 seasons: #4 (2015) and then #11 and #12 the past two years. Despite the outcries for him needing to be replaced, for fantasy purposes he's a starter in a league of this size. He's not going to lead someone to a championship, but he's passable. I wager you can poll the collective on something like Bortles vs. Winston and get a near unanimous vote in favor of the latter. Yet Winston has never produced a better fantasy season than Bortles.

Likewise, in regards to Bortles. I made that Shepard move soon after our season ended, so I can see now I probably jumped the gun. I'm hoping now that some of these WRs values will rise, and I can trade for a QB with one, rather than draft.

I'd pick out a QB you really like who is already in the league who has yet to break out (Trubisky) and who should come at a cheap enough price. Target that owner with Kupp and an extra piece if needed.

QB is what I would focus on first. Barkley will help your RBs and you might be able to get some decent production from one of Crowell and Thompson as your RB2. WRs are solid, but you're really going to need Arob to come back healthy and be the Arob from 2 years ago.
