When to draft luck?

Postby Broncopain » Sun Feb 11, 2018 8:18 am

When would you guys start feeling comfortable drafting luck in a 1qb 5pt per pass td league?

I'm seeing a huge buy low but unsure if I should snag him on my next round of picks. 4.01 to be exact.

Thanks guys

In a 1QB startup I don't see much reason to draft a QB in the single digit rounds, even if it's Rodgers or Wilson or whoever, you're better off getting someone at a value in the later rounds since they're devalued so much and focusing on a position with a lot more scarcity like RB.

Gotta agree with the above unless it's a 32 team league with team qb (which I doubt).
PPR IDP Contract Cap:
ConF (16 Team)
DAF (16 team)
DW2- Co-Commish (16 Team)

PPR IDP Salary Cap:
Hardcore - LAC (32 team)
T1 - Commish (12 team)
T2 - Commish (16 Team)

Wait on QB. More so with the questions surrounding Luck's shoulder, taking him at 4.01 is MUCH too high and could really set you back in a startup. Probably better off to see who's around at 10.01 + and decide on your target at that point. I'd be OK with taking Luck in that area if he's still on the board.

I don't agree at all. Playing the game of taking QBs late is a losing strategy. You want a guy you can plug in and forget about. I like to get my QB within the first few rounds. Someone like Rodgers or Wilson mentioned earlier give you a huge advantage over middling options.
4.01 is a good spot, though I'm not sure I'd make Luck my target right now with all of the uncertainty.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

What rookie pick would you trade for luck in a SF?

In 1qb leagues Luck was a mid-3rd round start-up pick last year before we knew the shoulder was going to be a problem. I would think his value since then has fallen a lot more than half a round.

Wouldn’t pay a premium for any qb. You can get studs in the 2nd round of a rookie draft like Winston, Watson, Wentz. Why would you waste such a high pick?

Never draft high on QB's in a 1QB startup. It's just not worth it. You can find great value for QB's later in the draft (Cousins, Stafford, Ryan, Rivers, etc.)

Count me in for the side that prefers to draft a stud QB highly and then forget about it. I tried to go a different route for the first time in the DLF Premium startup and I have regretted my decision the past 3 years (though that is 16 teams admittedly).

I do think you should go QB late, but only IF the top few are off the board. To me the difference between say the QB#6 and the QB#12 are often miniscule and really anybody's guess, but guys like Rodgers and Wilson (maybe a few other young studs, but a bit early to tell) just give you such a huge positional advantage and such a high floor that I don't mind investing in them early.

Having said that however, I
a) don't think Luck can be included that group anymore for now (though he may be again, it's just a lot bigger risk than we anticipated)
b) think 4.01 is definitely too high for him. I don't mind reaching for your guy, but I just don't think anybody else will touch him for that price, so I'd definitely wait for him to drop a bit more.

Even the studs half off years. Picking on early doesn't allow you to forget it, and if you do you will get burned. Having a few B tier guys is better than 1 stud.

I don't agree at all. One stud and one of those B tier guys is the way to go. It's a huge overlooked advantage by those that devalue QBs in leagues that only require one starter.
