My Hyde for Sammy Watkins

Postby Broncopain » Mon Jan 01, 2018 4:30 pm

I'm a big Hyde guy and the Watkins owner has offered to trade me Sammy and a 4th for Hyde. The fourth don't mean much to me but is Watkins ever going to be worth more than just his potential?

Watkins would not be a receiver I would be targeting personally especially if I am trying to win. I understand wanting to move Hyde if you don't want to wait out FA to see where he lands but get a better receiver option at a similar price even if you end up paying more such as Landry, A-Rob, etc. You will regret Watkins compared to the other options you could land for a similar price.

I'm bias because he's on my team. However, Watkins had some bad luck early on. And that fat p.o.s. Rex Ryan ruined his 2016 season by playing him on Thursday night, 4 days after Watkins felt pain in his surgically repaired foot. Being traded to a new team during the 3rd week of the preseason limited his potential this year.

The bad luck could keep coming. But the guy is still catching touchdowns, his foot is healed, and if he goes to a team like Dallas, Detroit, or Baltimore in the offseason, you won't be able to get him for just Hyde.

Detroit for me. Playing on a fast surface with a locked-up franchise QB who can hit him with the deep ball.

When will the excuses end for Watkins? The fact of the matter is he is an over rated WR and the dynasty community keeps keying in on the fact the Bills traded up to draft him 4th overall in a loaded WR class and that he has all these measurable but can't actually turn it into fantasy production on the field on a consistent basis. He is in his 4th year and although he is young, his injury issues are not going away. Everyone can keep dreaming about him going to a better fantasy situation but until it happens and he starts producing, I wouldn't continue to treat him as some prized dynasty possession/target. There are many WRs I would choose over Watkins especially for the price many seek for him/think he's worth.

I'll take Watkins in part because he's a better talent and more so that I'd be selling Hyde like a hot potato.

Watkins injury issues stem from the broken foot mostly and that injury has been know to linger 2 seasons and require 2 surgeries so I dont really see him as a walking injury here. No continuously nagging soft tissue injuries and was healthy this season. Feed him the targets like nuk gets and let's see what happens. What happens to nuk if he only gets 3 to 4 targets a game.

Watkins is 24 years old and an elite talent that isn't getting the targets to be fantasy relevant. The key part is, "isn't getting the targets". That can change very quickly. If he goes elsehwere, his situation could explode. If he resigns, Goff could continue his QB development and start throwing his way. He is incredibly talented. Hyde is as well, but RB's switching teams on the later side of their 20's makes me a bit nervous.

I'm taking Watkins but do not evaluate this trade thinking he won't be a Ram next year...they will not be letting him leave.

can we stop saying Watkins will move? He's happy there, he's winning, and the Rams paid a 2nd for him... they won't let him walk. If dealing him, give him the offseason/preseason to gel with Goff. With that said, looks like Hyde is your RB3 and his situation is very fluid... i still dont get why SF hates him so much. I honestly don't know what I would do here, I'm a Sammy owner but he is my WR4/5 at this point, and need a RB3 desperately.. so I may pull it if I've exhausted other options.

Sounds a bit melodramatic, but ok. Can't speak for everyone else, but when in discussion over Watkins future--or any free agent for that matter--I always use the precede the statement with the conjunction "if".

Safe money is likely on the Rams, but while in the conversation of money and free agency, you can never be absolutely sure if another team will desperately overpay.
