Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
Wonder if they bring in an offense or defense minded coach.
Its about time that he is leaving but it remains to be seen if the next guy up is an improvement.
Owning some Bengals I am intrigued but also cautious.

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
Now is the time to see if it is Marvin Lewis that was the problem or if it is the ownership/front office.

Well based on how their drafts have been going l, I think they might go offensive. Mixon, Boyd, Ross all have high capital spent in them

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
In terms of hiring coordinators, having Hue Jackson, Mike Zimmer & Jay Gruden all move on to become coaches speaks pretty well of Lewis. Being able to manage no minds like Pac-Man, Burfict & Mixon certainly looks pretty solid. The team let half the o-line walk and Fisher at RT is really the difference between where they are now and a potential playoff spot in my view.
I have no idea how a team that was referred to as the Bungles prior to Lewis can really expect to improve with him leaving. It's the same management. Maybe they'll be more viable for fantasy purposes, but even that seems unlikely.

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
I do think Lewis has definitely been part of the problem but the Bengals have screwed up a couple drafts in a row now, Williams Jackson and Tyler Boyd (who was a healthy scratch today) have barely seen any playing time and Boyd hasn't been that great (hasn't topped 20 yards yet this year and only topped 70 twice last year) which is pretty bad for a 1st and 2nd round pick. Then this year obviously the nonsense with John Ross injuries and Mixon underperforming and getting hurt. And even if you want to blame the OL changes for some of that (which is justified) that goes back to the front office/GM as well. Lewis was basically set up to fail between this year and last although he didn't really do anything to help himself either.

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
It was time. But he wasn’t set up for success with letting half the O-line walk. They better sign or draft at least 2 next year or it will be deja vu.
Here’s hoping they hire someone offensively minded (Mixon owner speaking).

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
Letting half your OLine walk and then drafting a fragile/small WR in the top 10 was piss poor roster management. I’m not sure that’s Lewis’s fault or if it’s the GM, but seems odd to pin all of this year’s failure on Lewis.

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
From what I've heard Lewis is sort of choosing to leave because of the coaching openings that are going to be available
Giants
Bears maybe?
Colts maybe?
Broncos maybe?
Buccaneers maybe?
Texans maybe?
The one thing in common with a lot of these possible openings is they all have young/francise QBs that most would consider better than Dalton.

Don't get too excited just yet...
There was a report that the Bengals are looking to trade for the rights to get Hue Jackson as their coach...

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
Why would another team ever consider hiring Lewis. It's like when the Bills hired that idiot Ryan from the Jets.
If I were an team owner I would never consider Lewis. I'd go down the road the Rams did and hire young offensive mind.

Re: Marvin Lewis finally leaving..
I think Lewis over stayed his welcome, but before Lewis the Bengals were awful. Lewis helped bring the Bengals back to relevance. He stayed a bit too long, but overall I feel as if he was a good head coach.

Lewis contributed to the mediocrity there, but until the ownership stops being cheap, the Bengals will remain terrible.
