Rate My Rookie Draft

Postby MrBalloonHands » Sat May 20, 2017 5:20 pm

Just finished our Rookie Draft. A little background: I have been making some moves this past year in an attempt to cash in on what I think of as an abundance of RB talent in this draft. I made the following trades to acquire the extra picks this year:

Traded Julio Jones for a first (ended up being 1.01). I was conflicted about this trade when I made it. I would have liked to get more for JJ but he did regress somewhat from 8.5 catches per game to 5.9 and missed two games with an injury. Having the pick end up 1.01 somewhat made up for it, though.

Traded C.J Anderson for a first (ended up being 1.04). Love this trade. Was not enamored with C.J. from the outset and happy to get a first for him.

During the draft I traded Carlos Hyde for the 2.12 pick which I then used to select his supposed replacement (eventually) in Joe Williams who Shanny reportedly loves. And when Shanny trades up to take a RB I tend to take notice. We'll see how CH does this year but in my attempt to get young, especially at RB, I'll stand by it.

12 team PPR. QB/RB/WR/TE/Flex/Flex/Flex/K/DST.

Team in sig.

1.01 Leonard Fournette, RB, JAX
1.02 Corey Davis, WR, TEN

4.09 Chris Godwin, WR, TB
4.10 Noah Brown, RB, DAL
4.11 T.J. Logan, RB, ARI
4.12 Chad Hansen, WR, NYJ

5.01 Elijah McGuire, RB, NYJ
5.02 Jonnu Smith, TE, TEN
5.03 Krishawn Hogan, WR, ARI
5.04 Shelton Gibson, WR, PHI
5.05 Ishmael Zamora, WR, OAK
5.06 Robert Davis, WR, WAS
5.07 Chad Williams, WR, ARI
5.08 Rex Burkhead, RB, NE
5.09 Elijah Hood, RB, OAK
5.10 Amara Darboh, WR, SEA
5.11 Mack Hollins, WR, PHI
5.12 Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, WAS

I'm hoping that 2/3 of my firsts ar homeruns (if I had to put money on it I would say Fournette and Mixon will hit but I've been wrong before). Love Engram in the 2nd. I invested somewhat heavily in the Rams receiving corps with Reynolds and Kupp but I like what McVay brings and one should pan out between the two. Flier on Krishawn.

How'd I do?

Your draft went well i woukd say, though you sold fairly low on Hyde and really low on Julio. Glad you got at least the 1.01 out of it and if he hits big it may not end up looking bad in the near future. I will say i, too, have grown a little frustrated with the timing of Julios injuries. You killed the CJA trade, whom i have never liked. You got my top two players as rookies.

Couple comments:

1). Welcome to the forums, glad to have you!
2). Just so you are aware, this should be in the 'dynasty team advice' forum.
3). While the Julio trade worked out as good as it could have, I still don't like it. Julio is a top 5 WR and this was a big risk to move from him to someone unproven.
4). The CJA trade was brilliant.
5). With the depth at RB in this draft and your lack of WR's I would have taken Davis at 1.01.
6). Not ecstatic with the Hyde trade to be honest. Think you could have gotten more for him and/or given up less to get the 2.12.

With this draft you should be set at RB for a while, given that you got 3 of the top 4. Best of luck to you this year.

I agree with most of what Shcritters said. The draft is fine for me. The only pick I think is a really nice value is Engram, no really bad values in there, but I would have taken Godwin. I also would have take Cook over McCaffery. Davis vs Fournette is a toss up for me, but I am ok with taking LF because if he shows well early, the value will spike quickly.

I know it piling on but the Julio trade is rediculious. Is this really how your league values first's. If that is the case, you should trade them, not trade for them. I'm not a Julio owner, but I would expect that owner would want 1.1 and 1.2.

The thing that stands out to me most is Kupp going a full round before Reynolds lol. First time I've seen that. Solid draft though, good or even value at every pick

Yeah, I understand that. With my team as it was I didn't really foresee winning much with Hyde or Anderson. I went all in on acquiring talent in a push to contend in 2 years. Losing JJ hurts but Michael Thomas and Devante Parker mixed with the new crop of RBs will hopefully yield dividends in 2019.

Probably some rookie fever here but I was not likely to contend in '17 so I somewhat hit the reset button.

i think you mean that reynolds went a full round before kupp..

since you owned picks 1.01,1.03, 1.04 you should have absolutely taken Davis with #1...you still get 2 of the top 4 RBs and your WRs are not that great

i would have probably taken Darboh or chad williams instead of Hogan...i mean Hogan was undrafted, chad is getting some buzz. darboh and chad were drafted in the 3rd round...please enlighten me....is there something i am missing about hogan?

Hogan was undrafted but I'm hopeful that was more to do with his NAIA competition in college. If he doesn't work out then it's a 5th lost. Most 5th rounders don't hit with our league (no taxi squad) so it'll be no big loss.

As far as Reynolds goes . . . I was debating taking Kupp over Reynolds in the 3rd. I decided on Reynolds based on his deep speed and ball skills which I hope translate into a solid NFL deep threat. I am a TAMU homer so that played into it but I did watch him extensively in college. He was an 3-star recruit who immediately started to shine over his 4 and 5 star teammates. So I'm hopeful he's got a chip on his shoulder that propels him to success in the league.

Then, Kupp fell to the 4th and I snagged him. Love his upside in a PPR format and better short term success.

I like the players you drafted. I hate the Julio trade, but the CJA trade makes up for it. The Hyde trade was also a big reach, but it might work out of Joe actually does take the job from him (big if).

Actually, I have to add that I hate the Kupp pick after seeing you passed on Godwin that late in the draft.

I haven't seen Trubisky go that high so far....In superfex drafts I have seen him go in the 3rd mostly. Love for Hodges too!

Your first 3 are decent picks. I had the 1, 3 and 4 and was toying with the 3 you took or Davis and Mixon/McC....In the end I went for Prescott+ leaving me with just the 3 and 4 in the 1st in our upcoming superflex draft.

Can you elaborate on how the Julio trade went down? When did you make the trade? Mid season? Trade deadline? End of season? Did you only shop to one owner? Is you league named the Julio Haters?

Just trying to wrap my head around it.
