Marshawn vs. 2017 Rookie field

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Marshawn vs. 2017 Rookie field

Postby joekuhns11 » Wed Apr 26, 2017 6:50 am

In the wake of the early morning news about Marshawn Lynch agreeing to terms with Oakland. Where would you draft him vs. the 2017 rookie class (top 2 rounds). I have picks 1.02, 1.04 & 2.03. I'm not thinking about using my 2 early picks but was wondering if you think he should be available for pick 2.03 (14th overall)?

I think Lynch is probably a mid or low end 2nd. Anything in the top half of the 2nd is too much imo.

I would not take him until mid-late second and I'm in a 16 team league. Now if you have a stacked team and say Jalen Richard already, I could see snagging him earlier than most.

Once you start getting to mid-second round of RBs, then I start to think that Lynch will likely have more productive seasons in his remaining years than the RB that you draft there will in his career.

For a win-now team, he's easily a mid-second round pick if not a tad higher in desperate situations.

depending on league I could see him going end of the 1st.....my league one owner has 4 late #1's...I expect hit to take lynch, he also has Washington, so a handcuff as well......

Try trading down when the 2.03 is on the clock and get a mid 2nd (take Lynch), and add an early 3rd or something on top. I'd also wait and see what happens in the draft with Oakland. I doubt they take a RB early, but might as well wait to get a better idea.

late 2nd at the earliest. Lynch didn't look good in his last season as a seahawk, now he's been off the field for a full yr. Richard and Washington aren't exactly nobodies. They can both ball okay so expect him to have some competition

Murray had the same competition last year and did OK. I think he can get close to those numbers if he's stayed in shape.

I'm curious, the last ADP round up had him sitting as fair value for a mid to late third. I doubt someone holding Lynch will be satisfied with that kind of offer though and I wouldn't be buying till I saw what he looked like during the preseason. Taking a long lay off from football can revitalize you, but it can also make it impossible to be effective after coming back. Some guys that have done similar things w/some payoff include John Riggins (took 1980 off after the '79 heartbreak), Ricky Williams (retired in '04, came back, then lost '06 to a drug suspension before coming back again), and of course AP. That OL makes him tempting but Lynch didn't look great behind a bad Seattle OL in '15 and now it's two years of age later. Not sure what to think and would not pay top dollar, but yeah, I'm not sure what top dollar is either.

I wouldn't be shocked if a real contender took him at the back end of Round 1. I wouldn't pick him until mid 2 though.

Agreed with most of the comments on here. I'm considering him at 2.07 only because I feel my team should contend this year and could use some RB depth (hoping a top 4 back drops to me at 1.07, though i'm not optimistic). Otherwise, late-2nd, early-3rd feels more appropriate.
Team #1 (co-owned), 1QB
QB - Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, Drew Lock
RB - Melvin Gordon, James White, JK Dobbins, Nyheim Hines
WR - AJ Brown, Dionae Johnson, AJ Green, Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Michael Pittman
TE - Austin Hooper, OJ Howard

Team #2, Superflex
QB - Desean Watson, Carson Wentz, Drew Lock
RB - Melvin Gordon, JK Dobbins, JD McKissic, Tarik Cohen
WR - DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Tyler Lockett, Sammy Watkins, Brandin Cooks, Emmanuel Sanders
TE - Junno Smith, Evan Engram

I'd easily use the 2.03 on Lynch if I was a contender in need of a RB.
