Annoying Log In

Checking the Remember Me box does nothing .. its so annoying having to log in all the time..

Felt like complaining.

mine was doing that for awhile, kind of fixed itself after a few weeks. I saw some people said they had to disable cookies or something though?

Same issue here. I had to log in for the 3rd time today to make this post. Despite clicking "remember me".

Yeah I've been having the same issue for a month now and I posted about it in this other tread but the DLF Mods haven't seem to have found a solution, or they can't recreate the issue on their own computers.

Same thing for me at home, on my phone (Tapatalk still isn't working either...), and on my work laptop. Seems strange that it wouldn't be something they could replicate given that it pretty much seems to be the default...

Yep...more often than not, I have to type in my login and password every time I want to post. "Remember Me" my bleep.

Right there with you guys, especially on my phone. I can log in, then once I click on a forum it logs me back out. Sometimes 4-5 times before I stay logged in.

What's seemed to work better for me is to enter into a specific thread. If I login then it boots me back out when I enter a sub-forum, usually if I go ahead and click on a topic instead of trying to login again it will then show me as logged in. Never had these issues with the old setup.

I know the forum is free to use, so I really hate to complain. The old site is superior for many reasons, but this one is tops. How hard can it be to fix this? Really, I'd like to know just how hard it is.

Agreed, I preferred the old setup too. The only thing I like better about this format is that Mod functions are much easier to perform than they used to be. As a user though, I don't care for it. I thought it would just take some time to get used to, but after a couple months now. ....Nope, still don't like it.

Yeah. I am having to type in notepad and paste in the field because it just stops typing sometimes.

Hey all, thanks for sharing. I am truly very sorry this is an ongoing issue. I wish I had a simple fix for it, but unfortunately it's not that easy. FiremanEd, no, this is not the default behavior of the forum software, it should indeed remember your credentials.

So clearly there is an issue here. As previously mentioned, I am not able to reproduce the issue. But it also sounds like some people are experiencing different issues. For example...

slaughterrt & Coogan indicate they have to enter their credentials almost every time they wish to post something.

BuckeyeNation indicates he is logged out every time he clicks on a forum.

maxhyde indicates he cannot even type a whole message because something stops working.

IBall2 indicates he's been experiencing the issue for about a month now, but Madadamus states it's been happening to him for years.

GLSmk says it was doing it for a while but now it seems to have fixed itself.

Whereas when I try to reproduce this issue using a regular user test account on a variety of browsers, computers and phones, I do not experience any of these issues. Moreover, if every single user were experiencing this, I suspect we'd be seeing many more comments to this effect.

So Bruiser, to answer your question, if the symptoms are not all the same, and I cannot reproduce the issue, the answer is... very hard. It's very hard to fix this. But I want to do whatever I can do to so.

I'd also suggest it's unlikely the issue is happening because of the theme used for the presentation of the site. The upgrades which were done a few weeks back involved upgrading the forum software, the underlying database, and the theme. A new theme had to be used for a variety of reasons, but the theme only affects presentation, not functionality. You may not like the look of the new theme, but it's almost certainly not the theme causing any issues. It is much more likely related to the software & database upgrade which took place, and which had to be done.

Ok. So there is that. Moving on to trying to fix this.

In order for me to try to find a fix for this issue, I will need to know as much specific information as possible. If you would like to help me fix this, then please respond back in this thread with the following information. And please understand, the more detailed you can be, the better.

Please describe the issue in detail: Less helpful: I have to log in all the time. More Helpful: I typically visit the site several times per day and I have to log in each time I arrive at the site, but when I click the login button the site usually remembers my credentials and logs me in. Or... Sometimes I have to enter my username and password every time I navigate between threads, but then after a bit it seems to remember me and I do not have to enter anything again until I close out my browser and return tot he site at a later time. Those are much more helpful and detailed explanations. The more information you can provide, the better.

When did you begin experiencing this issue? Less helpful: This has been happening for a while. More helpful: This began happening about a year ago but about three weeks it seemed to have gone away. It started happening again four or five days ago.

What browsers/systems do you use to access the site? Less helpful: My phone and my computer. More helpful: My iPhone 6 using both Safari & Chrome and my windows 10 computer running Edge and Firefox. It seems to happen less frequently on Firefox.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache to see if this will help with the issue? Less helpful: Screw you buddy, I'm not going to do that, or I am just going to say I did it anyway. More helpful: Yes, I just tried doing that again and is still does not seem to help.

Let's start with this and go from here. Again, the more detailed the info you can provide, the better.
