The 1.01: Fournette or Cook

Postby People Mover » Thu Dec 22, 2016 5:57 pm

Let's be real, if you have the 1.01 these are the two players you are deciding between. You want to get it right. This question is two-fold.

A) Who do you prefer and why?
B) What would it take for you to spend the 1.01 on THE OTHER GUY.

Thanks in advance.

To my league mates who lurk in these forums. I am taking a RB with the 1.01.

I would prefer Fournette given his size, speed, and just raw power. That being said, I certainly love Cook's playmaking ability and obvious advantage in PPR formats.

I currently own the 1.02 and will be interested to see what it would take to move up, my guess is it will cost more than I'm willing to give. Landing either of these RBs should give a boost to anyone's backfield, and I'm not going to pay another 1st given the depth this draft has to offer. I would probably pay a 2nd or a player of equal value to a 2nd, but that's likely it.

Fournette for me. I love the Beast Mode style just trucking over defenders. However, I think Cook style lends better to long term and less injuries. Both are fun to watch and can't really go wrong.

It's mostly because I became a fan after seeing him play live last year. It was during that stretch when he was dominating everyone. He went for 233 yds and 3 TDs (against Eastern Michigan, but still). It was like watching a man amongst boys.

Anyway- I'm rooting for him to end up in a good situation so that I won't have any hesitations about grabbing him because I've wanted him on my team ever since that day.

However- it all depends where these guys get drafted. If the situation is that much better for Cooks, I'll go Cooks.
It's always been Fournette in my eyes, I love Cook as a prospect and i think in the right system he could be a monster cause of his ppr value. For now i've got Fournette pretty firmly as the 1.1 but i could see me changing my mind before the draft.

I feel that Cook is safer, in a PPR at least. I think he will be a high end RB2 right off the bat in PPR leagues, whereas I could see Fournette struggle in a terrible offense such as Cleveland or Jacksonville. But Fournette has the higher ceiling as maybe the next 1500 yard rusher

I've only done very minor watching of both - since I don't really have the opportunity to get either so I don't really care.

With that said; I would go Cook personally. I prefer the agile guy with vision over the powerful athletic guy in most cases.

Both are intriguing prospects, obviously.

Take my Colts for instance. If we get Cook, I love it (both in fantasy and in real life). I think he will be able to make things happen even without a great line, and also get 7-8 targets per game. But Fournette would struggle in Indy, IMO. He would certainly be a solid bet for weekly TDs, but I could see him getting swallowed up behind the line. Just my thoughts.

Gore is having a great season at 50 , what makes you think Fournette would struggle? i dont have any stats to back this up but i think the Colts are a decent run blocking line but give up alot of sacks it seems.

Cook for me. His vision is crazy. He fumbles though. But I think he's the better player overall

Cook has been comp'd to Jamal Charles as a ceiling and that's not a bad one. I see a less ferocious Marshawn Lynch in Cook's game as well. Yards after contact, spinning away from tacklers, that sort of thing. For Cook's floor, I would say maybe Lamar Miller? Really solid at everything you want in a RB, but not GREAT at any one thing.

Landing spot is key here. If Cook lands in Indy or Green Bay watch out he's 1.01. I'm not a Fournette fan actually if he fell to me at 1.03 or 1.04 I probably wouldn't take him. I believe his season will be injury riddled. I can see him being a Gronkowski or Arian Foster type of player: stud when he's on the field but he's never on the field.

Is it more nuanced, say Cook in a PPR and Fournette in standard? I have the 1.01 in a 0.5 PPR league so interested in views!
1. 12 team 1pt PPR. Start 1 QB, 2-3 RB, 3-4 WR, 1-2 TE. Yr 7
QB: Murray, Stafford

TE: Goedert, Everett

2. 12 team 1pt PPR. Start 1 QB, 2-4 RB, 3-5 WR, 1-3 TE. Yr 6.
QB: Jackson, Allen
RB: Akers, CEH
WR: Chase, M Brown, Pittman, M Williams
TE: Tonyan, Hooper
2023: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

3. 12 team superflex, PPR (WR/RB/TE 1/1.25/1.5). Start 1-2 QB, 1-7 RB, WR, TE. Yr 5.
QB: Jackson, Prescott, Brady

Fournette for me. Guy is rumored to run a 4.3 40 which at his size is unfathomable. We'll see how it goes at the combine, and then landing spot (for both) but It would take something crazy for cook to jump ahead of him in my ranks.

So, in summary, there is no consensus 1.01. There are just as many Cook supporters as there are Fournette supporters. Hopefully, the combine and draft will create a little distance betweem the two.
