Sammy Watkins

Postby Checker1183 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 11:16 am

Will he ever be healthy? I know his value isn't high right now, is it time to bail before it drops more? Or hold as his value can't get lower?

I have an offer on the table for Sammy, Olsen and a 2nd rounder.

With all the Watkins hysteria going on right now let's make sure that we think back to just 5 weeks ago when Watkins was going in the 2nd round of start ups. We are talking about a guy who is only 23. He can miss the rest of the year and once training camp starts up again next year and he is healthy his price will still likely be a late 2nd or early 3rd start up pick. There is absolutely no reason to take an offer like Olsen and a 2nd at this point. This isn't just to you but to the entire forum... stop the madness.

Hold Sammy unless you need a TE and have a chance to win with him. I love Olsen, always try to get him in my leagues. He is the only TE you never have to worry about. Just plug him in each week and forget about it. I wonder how many players we can come up with and say that about no matter who they are playing. Maybe 20 tops?

What is his value right now though?

Would you trade straight up for?

Cobb:
Moncreif:
DT:
Treadwell:
Matthews:
Diggs:

He's shown more than all of them when healthy. From what we've seen when he's healthy he's one of the top 10 Wrs in the league. With him on IR now it's going to be on next year for him to prove himself. Any of these guys listed could end up better but from what we've seen he's more valuable than any of those guys straight. Might not be a huge value difference on some but if he comes back next year healthy his value will be right back where it always is. This is dynasty.

Just to put this in perspective, Sammy came into the league and put up nearly 1000 yds as a rookie. He missed several games and due to poor game calling had a slow start last year. He proceeded to go on a tear with high end WR1 numbers for the last half of last season. He ended the season, despite only playing 13 games, with 1047 yds and 9 tds on only 60 catches. Julio had very similar numbers (959/8, 1198/10) through his first two seasons, albeit with more targets and catches. His third season he fractured his foot in game 5 and was out for the rest of the season. He returned the following year and has continued to put up the elite "Julio" numbers we all have come to know and love. While the arguments for injury-prone are viable, at this point there is no reason to think Sammy cannot come back and continue to be the player we have all seen prove himself on the field. Sammy could continue to be hampered by injuries, but Sammy could also very well be the next Julio. Fantasy football comes with injuries to key players, it sucks. Look at my roster and you'll know how I feel about it. But you can't let go of your young studs at low moments like this. Sammy is an absolute hold. If the injury risk still scares you, sell him off after he returns to form (which he absolutely will for at least some portion of time). I for one will be holding indefinitely, waiting to win championships with the player I believe he will be.

You'd be insane to sell him for Olsen and a 2nd. People need to calm down. Injuries happen, and Sammy played in 90%+ of the games in his first 2 seasons.
Space Cowboy wrote:Lol @ the people around here who shouted about Sammy not being injury prone. There was a lot of em too.
This injury didn't happen this week. Doesn't add to the "injury prone" narrative as that injury should already be baked in.
