should we be discussing Dorsett this week?

Postby sloth8u » Fri Sep 23, 2016 4:38 am

It would seem as if the next few weeks is a great opportunity for dorsett to earn a significant role in the colts offense. Yet, not much chatter around here. He's not a guy I was targeting during rookie drafts, but I know several were. For those impressed.....what can we hope to see the next few weeks?

I think that Dorsett absolutely gets an uptick while Moncrief is on the shelf. I know it's only been two games, but from what I've seen (both games because I live in the Indy market), Luck has been looking his way more often already. The Colts can't run the ball, so I think that ALL pass catchers should see a slight uptick, Dorsett included. As an Allen owner, I'm hoping he sees more red zone targets (enough of Jack Doyle already, lol). Hilton will probably benefit the most, but I'm actually curious to see what Quan Bray brings to the table.

I'm planning to roll the dice and start him this week. Charges D is weak, and like someone said, Indy can't run the ball so I'm hoping Dorsett can get at least 8-9 targets and turn that into a decent game. Not expecting a ton of RZ work, but he could easily break off a long TD with his speed.

Same here. Starting Dorsett over Michael Floyd and Tajae Sharpe over Sammy this week. Time for the young bucks to step up!

I have Dorsett starting over Golden Tate right now in one of my redraft leagues, but I'm on the fence. Any thoughts?

I have no problem with that. Dorsett is a high upside WR3, potentially WR2 right now. He should be getting 8+ targets, many of which will be deep shots.

Yeah I think Dorsett gets a nice uptick in production with Moncrief out, especially with Hilton set to go against J. Varett. He's a legit top end corner. I'm debating whether to play Dorsett or Sanu myself. Any thought between these two?

From what I've seen on Twitter Verrett does not cover the slot, where Hilton runs the majority of his routes out of. So, Dorsett could see a lot of Verrett on Sunday unless Hilton moves outside more due to the Moncrief injury. Who Verrett will cover looks like a mystery to me going into Sunday. I am a Dorsett owner and am deciding between the trio of Dorsett, Ware and Floyd for my final 2 starting spots. Right now I plan to go with Floyd and Ware. That Buffalo secondary got shredded last week, and Ware has given me no reason to send him to the bench as long as Charles is out. Dorsett is a wait and see right now for me. Chargers secondary has been pretty solid.

Yea, I think we'll have a better idea what Dorsett is made of after this month. Id be a little worried as a Luck owner. I dont know if his game can translate to pygmies like Brady's does (although, where does Brady's game NOT translate?). I dont know if the stats back it up, but the Colts games are always aired where I live, and while im a Luck fan IRL and in dynasty, im starting to wonder if he can consistently hit touch passes in the 5-15 yard range. Also not sure how Dorsett is in that part of his route tree. I look forward to seeing what kind of chemistry/timing Luck and Dorsett have in the more nuanced parts of the game like finding those nice cushions all throughout the field.

Hilton pretty easily at this point. He's proven it and just got a nice 5 year contract extension to tie him to Luck. They clearly like him. Dorsett is still a prospect and I doubt he takes over anytime soon. He has an opportunity to carve out a nice WR3 role on the team, which itself has value, but he's far off from taking over. I know Hilton has gotten off to a slow start this year, but be patient. He's faced off against pretty good corners so far and may take one more week. He'll get going soon enough though.

Great insight. I'm in the exact same situation and I think I'm also going to start Floyd over Dorsett this week, especially since SD has some of the best CBs in the league and also Darby from Buffalo is out so Floyd may get some good opportunities. Gonna wait it out this week and go with the safer Floyd.

Majority? No. It's about a 55-45 split with Hilton between outside and slot snaps, with the 55% being on the outside.

Hilton and Dorsett will share time in the slot in 3-wide. Also keep in mind that if Chud goes to more two-TE sets with Moncrief out, then that just means neither Hilton nor Dorsett will have many slot snaps, making the point moot.

Regardless, I don't expect Dorsett to explode this week. It's not a great match-up regardless of who Verrett covers, as the cornerbacks are the one bright spot on SD's defense. Verrett is probably the best, but all three starters are steady players.

Dorsett's still a threat for a decent fantasy day just by the grace of one long catch, but unless you're a league that awards bonus points for long receptions, I still can't consider Dorsett more than a boom-or-bust WR3 today.
eraldo_coil wrote:Starting Dorsett over Michael Floyd
Would not do this. Darby should be a big loss to Buffalo's boundary coverage. He's usually steadier than Gilmore.

edit: although I note Palmer is 3 for 13 right now... yikes
TheSpidersFromMars wrote:Also not sure how Dorsett is in that part of his route tree
For his size, he has better play-strength (which is generally important for those routes) than I think most people realize, and he's gotten even bigger this offseason, Well built for 5'10". But insofar as route savvy he's still very unproven.
