Interesting Trade Offer with Pick Swaps COMPLETED

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Interesting Trade Offer with Pick Swaps COMPLETED

Postby duckman92 » Mon Aug 29, 2016 12:05 pm

The offer on the table is:

Give:

Bruce Ellington
Rob Kelley

Get:

CJ Prosise

Here's the catch. The other owner owns 4 2017 1sts and I own 2. My picks are from 2 of the better teams in the league while he has a variety of picks. The catch is that he would have the right to swap any of his picks with mine by years end. It's a 14 team league and 1 of my picks is a in the 12-14 range and the other in a 10-12 range.

Anything can happen in the season which is why I'm hesitant to do it. It could end up in my favor if both of my picks are good next year or backfire if they're not. One of the firsts he owns is also mine, so if I were to win a title, I'd end up with my pick lol

I'm usually against pick swaps, but if you're confident both of your 1sts wind up late then I guess I'd do the trade. One thing though- you said he would have the right to swap out- meaning he has the right to not swap too, correct?

If so, I would advise not doing the deal because there is no way he is going to choose giving up a worse pick...

Yeah he wouldn't be forced to do any kind of swap. Here's the starting lineups for the teams I own the firsts of:

QB Eli
RB Gurley
RB Lacy

I'd pass on it - you're taking on too much risk with the pick swap.

Then easily pass- not worth the risk. Probably rather have Ellington than Prosise at this point too...

I don't think it's that bad. But if you are leaning yes, tell him you need him to throw in a 2017 2nd , that way it will cover up any drop on the 1st. It will show how well he truly thinks he'll be able to swap if needed.

I'd advise against it, because then that means you can't trade either pick in season, right? Thus limiting your trading ability if you need to pick up a player for the stretch run.

Final deal went through:

Gave:

Bruce Ellington
Rob Kelley

Got:

CJ Prosise

He retains the right to swap with either of my 1st round picks, but only if their teams make the playoffs. He must choose the swap prior to the wild card round and has the right to swap back the original deal at the cost of a 2017 2nd. Basically the swap can be at maximum from 1.14 to 1.9

I like the trade for you. Ellington's only hope of ever being fantasy relevant again if a couple injuries happen in front of him, and that would be short lived, while Kelley will be a short lived fad. So you are getting Prosise for potentially moving down a couple spots in the late 1st.
